Now that our "April Fools" KAL is over, we can get our REAL April knit-along going.

We're making HEADBANDS, HAIRBOWS, SCRUNCHIES, and other hair accessories. :knitting:

Headbands can be sporty or stylish. http://bestsmileys.com/exercising/5.gif

And hairbows are definitely "girlie". http://www.smilieland.com/graphics/daisy03.gif

I think this knit-along will be fun, because the projects will be quick, and can be used by males and females alike!

I'm even thinking of trying out some crochet patterns, because I haven't done that in a LONG time.

Here are some ideas for knitting patterns:
Hair Accessories on Knitting Pattern Central (http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/hair_accessories.php)

And some crochet patterns:
Hair Accessories on Crochet Pattern Central (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/hair_accessories.php)

So, look for your favorite knitting or crochet pattern, and let's get knitting!

This is unfortunately only on Ravelry, but it's a 'double knit' headband. I've been wanting to try it for ages so hopefully I can get to it this month! Woo!:yay:

Nice!

Maybe I should try a new knitting technique this month. I started a Fair-Isle headband at a class at SAFF (http://www.saffsite.org/dnn/Default.aspx)* last year, and STILL haven't finished it! :teehee:
* Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair

Double knitting is another thing I haven't tried.

These small projects will be PERFECT for trying new things!

LOL, that's too funny. I hope I can make the KA/CA this month, I'm always dropping out but been dying to make a headband!

I think I'm going to join. I found several patterns that I'd like to try. Just need to weed through them and figure out what one I want to do.

I'd like to do one that incorporates a new to me technique. I'm thinking lace or entelac. I've seen several with cables as well. I did a bib once with a basic cable on it, but that was it. If they go quick enough then I may be able to do more than one and try them all!:)

I still can't believe I fell for the April Fool cap - silly silly girl. Since I can't 'get my feet wet' making waterproof socks with Sandy's yarn, I think I'll do this headband instead:
http://www.cyn.ca/knit/patterns/bamboozled/

It will be a good one for me because I've only done a couple of cable swatches in my knitting class, but not an actual item, and I've never knitted from a chart. Plus, the pattern recommends bamboo yarn which I've been admiring at HL but had nothing to make with it. And it will be fun because I haven't done a KAL before, and wouldn't probably be doing this one if I hadn't been 'bamboozled' by the waterproof yarn - doh!

 I feel the same way. I want to make a few of them in different colors. I also want to make some scrunchies. Those are SO easy!

Well, I've had several false starts on this KAL.

You know yarn that just doesn't want to be what you had in mind, no matter how many times you frog it and start over! I wanted to use some stash yarn, but finally gave up and went out this morning to buy some yarn.

Know to find another pattern for the new yarn!

Fortunately it's not hard to do that. :teehee:

:) I'm sure I needed an excuse to but more yarn! I actually live in a smallish rural community, so yarn is a bit hard to get. We have Walmart and a small LYS. I can't usually get yarn from there because I have a chronic case of being broke. Darn kids prefer to eat as to me getting yarn!

I did go there today though and got a fingering weight yarn. I'm going to try to do a lace headband. I've never knit lace before so wish me luck!! :teehee:

Here's the pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mollys-headband I'm doing mine in a solid light blue yarn. Bristol Yarn Gallery - Buckingham. It's really soft! I'm hoping mine will end up more narrow than the original.

You're describing ME! I do that all the time, but I really don't mind. It's fun trying different things with different yarns. Kinda like being a sculptor, waiting for the rock in front of you to tell you what it wants to be.

:fingerwag: You are not dumb! The easiest way to do it is to just copy the link and paste it into your message. It'll automatically link in most cases.

To add a link to your post, just open up the link that you want to reference, and click in the address area at the top of your screen. When the web address is highlighted, right-click your mouse in that area, and click "copy". Then, open up the post your making in the forum, and right-click, then click "paste" in the post. Good luck!

Just wanted to post and let you all know that I haven't abandoned this KAL. I cast on Sun. expecting to be done the next day, BUT... I got an eye infection in BOTH eyes :zombie: !!! Seriously, I figured it best not to try and knit lace for my first time this way! I can see well enough to get through the day, and thank goodness for spell check, but knitting, not so much!

On the positive side, I was able to get through the first 20 rows and then 2 sets of pattern repeat before this happened. When I do finally get back to it, I don't think it should take too long to complete. The pattern I chose seems very easy and was a good choice to begin lace with.

Just as an aside...I have no idea how to block lace! Guess I should figure that out, huh?

Hi Lieuvena, so sorry about your eye infection. I hope it clears up soon for you.

I haven't abandoned this kal either, but I haven't started yet (other than getting the pattern and the yarn - I'm really good at doing that part!) The reason I haven't started is that I have another project I really want to get finished with first. I'm hoping to have it done by Easter, but realistically, I'm not so sure that can happen. All I can do is :knitting: and hope for the best...

Welcome to the April KAL!

I actually finished my blue scrunchie! :woohoo:

I used some of my handspun blue merino wool. I'm still learning to spin, so it wasn't consistent by any means. But it didn't need to be perfect for this hair scrunchie. :)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3663/3431113678_a2b6bbd6c6.jpg

After binding off, I seamed the ends together to form a ring.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3603/3430301805_0e5862c399_m.jpg

Then, I found a hair elastic in my bathroom drawer.

Next, I put the elastic around the knitting scrunchie.

Thanks, Sandy and Yarncharmer! It was fun to do, but there were so many stitches! I just couldn't picture that this would fit anyone, but it worked out somehow. I can't even imagine how many stitches you'd have to cast on for a blanket to be double knit in one piece... Let's see, if you need 50 for one block across the front that would be 100 for both sides. So if you want 5 blocks across then that's 500 stitches not counting any edge stitches for a smallish blanket if I'm counting correctly. If you use a lighter weight yarn so it's not quite so thick that's even more...
Oh. My. God. :passedout:

Very nice, Sandy!

Everyone's headbands are lovely. Sadly, I have yet to cast on for mine, and (checking calendar) it's now May 1st. I have spent the last couple of days making some headwear that isn't really a hat, so maybe that counts. It's for a music program at my daughter's school. The pattern is from the Godey's 1858 Ladies' Catalog, and can be found on Ravelry (it's called Sortie) and here:

I need to add the ribbons and fringe and then I'll try to post a picture.

Happy May Day!

Hello Everyone!
I forgot my log-in information but all is straight now. I did finish the headbands, yes I did two of them the first one was my very first attempt at changing a color. It was so plain, I had to challenge myself with headband #2, using two colors and knitting Continental and English at the same time. I used the "Awareness Symbol" motif multiple times for the design on this one. Pheeew! That was a mess in the beginning but it turned out pretty nice, I think! :happydance: :woohoo:

Thanks so much! The pattern was simple, in the round and I tweaked the ribbon in microsoft paint on a chart multiple times to fit the stitches. I hope that made sense, I'm a beginner in knitting ;)

I'm not sure I'll have enough time to join the next KAL. I wanna finish my kimono before the summer sets in. Also started an afghan-the pattern is for a rug but I tweaked it a bit.
