View Full Version : Stretchy Sock Yarn?

Has anybody tried this Patons Stretchy Sock yarn?
I just bought a skein of this yarn, it was on sale for $2.49.
Will one skein be enough for a pair of socks that are not fancy and go up a little over my ankle? There is approx. 239 yards.
Thanks for any info, sue

You'll be cutting it close but yes. I made a pair a little while ago, so I don't remember the details but I know that I bought two skeins of Paton's Stretch and I still have an untouched skein. The leg went maybe an inch or two over the ankle.

It also depends on your shoe size. I have really big feet, so even ankle socks would be a no...

I'm using it now to make a sock. It makes a good, stretchy fabric. =)

If you're worried about yardage, what I've tried doing is measuring a yard at the beginning of a row, tying a LOOSE knot there, then when I reach it I know approximately how many rows and stitches one yard can get. That can give you some idea of how much you'll need. Be sure it's a really loose knot so you can undo it, of course ;)

It'll depend on the size of your feet... If you feel uneasy about it, consider going toe-up (two at a time even, if you're feeling really adventurous!) or doing the toes in a coordinating yarn. Good luck!
