This is the Aran Blanket from Knit Baby Blankets. I made it for a friend who is having a little girl. It took me about two months, and I'm so glad I finished it because she's about ready to give birth any day. :teehee:

The pattern called for worsted weight, but I used 2 strands of Bernat Softee Baby held together, and it's just the right weight. I just love this pattern, and will definitely use it again. It's fairly simple once you get everything laid out, and by the time I got about halfway through I had it memorized, which made the knitting even easier.

There are a couple of places where I turned the cables the wrong way and was too lazy to go back and fix them, but I just tell myself that makes it even more special. :aww:

Beautiful! I love it!

I went over to Amazon to find the book! Just had to have this pattern! I found it, then I remembered (when I saw the cute book) I already have it! So I dug it out, and found the Aran Baby blanket...and then remembered that I knit this blanket about 5 yrs ago (in blue cotton) for my grandson! Oy!

Yours is far prettier! Far nicer! I think using the double strands of Baby Softee makes the blanket look sooo cushy and soft and warm!

Way to go!

Hope you don't mind, I posted a link for the blanket in your post, cuz I'm sure lots of knitters will want this pattern!

Gorgeous! I would rather see your beautiful work before the book cover, though.

Thanks, everybody, for the lovely comments. I think this will definitely be one of my go-to patterns when I need a blanket. I haven't had a chance to give it to my friend yet, and the longer it stays here the more I REALLY don't want to give it away. :teehee: But, that would be selfish. Bad knitter. :aww:

Beautiful Aran Baby Blanket, Jessica.
I actually knitted an Aran Baby Blanket for my Grandson, which was my daughter's baby shower gift. I made a smaller version of the Aran Blanket I knit for my daughter's bridal shower gift, knitting the exact same stitches, minus a 4 narrow cable strips. Both blankets were knit in strips then I crocheted the strips together. You can check out the larger blanket on my website www.veronica-sews.com (http://www.veronica-sews.com)
Your Aran Baby Blanket will be treasured for many, many years!

I finally was able to give the blanket to the recipient last week, and when she saw it I thought she was going to cry. She just kept touching the cables and saying, I just love this so much. So, it makes this knitter feel good to know that my hard work is appreciated and will be used and well loved. :)

Oh, that sounds like a wonderful reception. Makes it very worthwhile and easier to part with your beautiful knitting.
