Hi, I am looking for a pattern for and open front cardigan. I bought one and want to try and make one. Is there a way to make a pattern from the one I own? Also, what yarn should I use, I was thinking fingering or sport, something light, but not too expensive. I've included a picture of one that is similar to the one I own. Thanks for your help!

If you know about designing and are familiar with knitted fabrics you might be able to design something similar, but I think finding a similar pattern and altering it a bit might be easier.

5th one down on this page is very similar.

This one has a drapey effect and might be able to be altered so it's closer.

Thanks for responding so quickly, I was looking at the first one and do you think you could suggest a light yarn that would drape like the photo? or what fiber would simulate it? Thanks again!

The yarn used for the sample design is Allegoro by Classic Elite Yarns. It is a loosely plied 70% cotton, 30% linen and it's about 6 st. to the inch in gauge with size 5 US needles. This guide (http://www.yarnstandards.com/weight.html) puts at about a sport to DK weight. It's a fairly new pattern so there isn't a lot of info about it yet even on Ravelry.

I don't know of specific yarns, but I know bamboo produces a drapey fabric so it might be an option. Hopefully someone else here can help you out with info.
