View Full Version : Need yarn suggestions

Does anyone have suggestions for a self-striping worsted yarn that is durable enough for a baby blanket--probably some kind of acrylic blend). I need something easy to work with (sorta like Berrocco Comfort) and that won't be too hot in the South. I would love to use primary, or at least bright, colors but that may be asking too much. Can someone send me in the right direction?

Red Heart used to have a yarn called Strata. It's 100% acrylic and a bit stiff, but very well-wearing and fantastic self-striping in very bright colors. I've used it a good bit. Here is some on e-bay, and I'd snatch it up if I were you, if it's what you want. It's no longer manufactured! http://shop.ebay.com/items/red%20heart%20strata%20yarn?_dmd=1&_sop=12

I've used the James C Brett Marble and Encore Colorspun, but have the others bookmarked. If you are on Ravelry go to the yarn tab and look at projects made with these yarns. You can see how they stripe.

I was gonna say red heart yarn too. As cheap of a yarn it is, it does good self striping. I only have used the worsted weight red heart but I'm sure the sports weight might be just as good. I have some Barret like candy cane stripe like baby sports yarn. It looks cute but it's not really self striping it's more like dotting I guess.
