Posting for Sandy,

June KH Forum KAL - Chemo Hats!

It's time for another monthly knit-along! June crept up on us QUICK!!

This month, we've decided to make charity projects, using soft yarn to create comfy chemo hats!
Chemo hats are used by those that have lost their hair due to chemotherapy or brain surgery. The hats should be made to feel good and not be too hot.

You'll find some guidelines for making the hats, as well as some places to donate your hats on this website:
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/cancercaps.html (http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/cancercaps.html)

Yarn ideas:
~Any soft, soft yarn preferably in cotton, cotton blend, bamboo, etc. Wool is not recommended. Even if it's soft to you it may not be soft enough to a sensitive scalp. Yarns like these are good -

Berroco Comfort
Berroco Love It
Caron Simply Soft

I am looking forward to seeing all your beautiful hats! :)

Thanks for posting the KAL, Jan!
I enjoyed my one day vacation at the beach.

I looked through my stash this past week, and found a perfect yarn to make a chemo hat! Now, I just have to remember what it was. :teehee:

I hope everyone else is able to make a hat for our cause this month.

I've gotten about an inch and a half done on my chemo hat. I'm using some cotton yarn in my stash.

The first inch was done with dark blue Peaches & Cream. Then, I switched to a light blue Bernat Cottontots. The entire hat is done with K2, P2 ribbing, so it's easy going.

Here's the pattern I'm using: Mushroom Cap (http://www.morehousefarm.com/Original/Pattern/duJour/09/)

This is such a good idea!! I went and bought 4 different colors of yarn. I think I am going to make slumber hats because my daughter who is going through chemo said that she had a hard time finding them.

I went and bought some Bernat Satin in a deep red. I just noticed that I bought all dark colors. I started the hat last night. I'm using a pattern from this site.

Well i have problems knitting in the round, i can never tell which is the inside and which is the outside and which one is facing me and which one isn't...thankfully this pattern is easy...

Thanks for joining, Mary!

Vertigo, I usually knit on the OUTSIDE of the circle. Imagine that you are drinking from a cup....I knit on the side you would sip from. The inside of the hat is on the inside of the cup. The outside of the hat is on the outside of the cup.

Some people knit the other way around, so their hat is inside out as they knit.

Excellent work, mhanson! :cheering:

I'm still plugging along on my blue hat.
I told my mother about it, and she has requested that I give it to a friend of hers who is undergoing chemotherapy.
