Oye. I could just cry! :waah:

Ok, we foster dogs, as some of you may know. I had someone coming to look at our Frankie girl today. I had told the lady that runs the rescue (Sheri) that I just didn't feel right about them. Just a gut thing. Well, we set up for them to come met the dog today, here, at my house. I made it quite clear 3 TIMES where I was located and how far it was from them (about an hour). I honestly thought that they'd back out before today.

They said they'd be here around noon. 4 pm they call and say that they're just leaving. 30 minutes into the trip they call and ask where I was located again  So, they finally get here and the mom of the daughter who wants the dog is not someone I'd be friends with, but that doesn't mean that they can't take good care of this dog.

She doesn't even say two peeps to me as we go into the back yard. The daughter and her boyfriend look over the dog, they are nice. Frankie is a little standoff-ish but they are new people. Then the boyfriend asks if the adoption price is negotiable!!! Total red flag right there. If you can't afford the adoption fee and believe that it is going to one of the best causes in the world; then what are you going to do if they get sick??? Then the mom starts in on how far of a drive it was and blah blah blah.

I call Sheri and pray that she answers. She talks to them and tells them that we don't negotiate adoption fees and that she is not adopting to them. The lady made me feel awful!!! Like I was dealing dogs! OMG!

We'll have none of that girlfriend! You should spend that energy patting yourself on the back for "reading" them and not being bullied into ignoring your instincts. And, while you're at it...call Sheri back and thank her for backing you up. I'm glad she was there.

Then, sit back, play with the "babies", have a cup of tea (or drink of your choice) and enjoy the evening...that's an order!

Sgtpam is right Jess. YOU trusted your gut and YOU protected Frankie from being put into the wrong home. You are the hero here, each and every day that you get up and care for these precious animals. I know its scary and frustrating that people like this roam the earth freely, but that's why you and I are here, to keep our pups, and any others we can, safe. I'm so sorry this happened to you and I know you're shaken up, but you did the right thing. :muah:
My brothers girlfriend, who is a fellow doglover, sent this poem to me and I thought you might gain a bit of strength from it, I did. And then I cried at the end. But it is so true.

I believe the auther is Jim Willis.

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something," He replied.
"I created You."

Keep doing what you're doing. You are making a HUGE difference in each and every life you help save.

Thank God for people like you!! You probably saved that furbaby from a terrible life. These people sound like selfish creeps to me. Keep up the good work of "reading" the wrong adoptees.

Those better turn to tears of joy or I'll hunt you down and force feed you chocolate cake!

You SO did the right thing!

The red flags started when they left 4 hours late. Seriously! If you have your heart set on adopting a dog you aren't going to be 4 MINUTES late!

Good for you and good for Sheri:cheering:

Thank you all! :aww: Sometimes people like that can be so discouraging!!! They didn't bring a leash, which I thought was very odd, to me anyways. The last dog we adopted out, the family came from Minnesota and had a new collar and leash, plus a new crate and toys waiting! :happydance:

A potential adopter is coming to meet Frankie tonight and he sounds just great, seriously. After I got off the phone with him I broke down and cried because this is going to be her new home, I can feel it. And I'm going to miss her so much.

It's so quiet here without my Frankie girl. But her adopter is really great, and he found me on Facebook so we are keeping in touch that way. Emily, the other foster, is at the vet. She had a mass from her abdomen removed today. So it's just my 3 dogs in the house, laying around. It's just so quiet!

It really sucks when someone tears into you, especially when you are being reasonable and sincere.

I thought the same thing when my Duke passed away. It was sooo quiet in the house. I never realized how much I  dog noise. :teehee:
I'm sorry you're sad right now, but I'm so glad that you were the one who was there for Frankie to love her before her forever family found her. Just think of all the good you are doing for these dogs. Gosh, I'm tearing up just thinking of all the love you are giving these beautiful creatures. Bless you my dear, bless you.
