I started with unwashed old wool...
kool-aide dyed it hank by hank....
knit it into a bag and felted it....

Haven't put the handles on yet (they're red) b/c I'm attempted to put a liner in before I give it away.

That turned out really pretty, vaknitter! I love your colors. How much kool-aid did you use per how much yarn? What colors/flavors did you use?

I would not have thought of putting those colours together, you obviously have a much more artistic eye than i do!! They look stunning.

Thank you ladies !! I actually think that I have NO artistic eye and that is why I was able to put all those colors together ;)
As for how much Kool-aide...I roughly followed directions I found on-line and it took A LOT of kool-aide...luckily our local grocery had the little unsweetened packets on sale for 10/1.00. I think I used almost 10 of each color, but I was doing very bulky yarn so it soaked up the color so quickly. Orange was orange, blue was berry something or other, red was tropical berry, yellow was lemonade supplemented with Wilton cake dye, and green was a combo of blue and yellow, the purple was grape and I used about 20 packets of kool-aide. I found purple was hard and time consuming to get a nice shade and ultimately I put purple on the bottom b/c I wasn't a huge fan.
AmyO - I didn't so much "find" the wool as it found me...everyone I work with knows I knit so one of the nurses brought me some old wool she had stashed in a closet from when her parents ran a farm. This wool is just a small portion of what was in there so this is a thank you gift for her.

That is a beautiful project and a lovely way to say thanks!

Does anyone else find it rather alarming that kool-aide is made for human consumption with all that dye! Better used for dyeing wool, IMHO!

It must really feel all yours with doing the dyeing and all. Now you'll have to learn to shear sheep and spin. :) Very nice project.

I don't know if I am more impressed at the beautiful dyeing and bag or more jealous that you took the plunge and dyed your own yarn!
