Can someone point me in the right direction to learn how to do the slip stitch? I want to learn how to make socks.

Slipping a stitch isn't really a stitch it's just slipping the stitch from the left needle to the right unworked. What part are you having trouble with?

There are some excellent videos here. Check out the glossary (http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-glossary) (aka Knitting Terms and Abbreviations) under Knitting Videos. Then scroll down the page to sl1k and sl1p. Also, read the blurb under "sl aka s" on the same page because sometimes it's not clear whether to slip purlwise (sl1p) or knitwise (sl1k). People generally just write sl1.
