I have increasing mobility restrictions that make it both hard and painful to knit. (I don't just mean with straight needles; I have been primarily using circulars for years now, with dpns as necessary.) A friend gave me a set of circular knitting looms to try as an alternative, and it works nicely -- except for the fact that the gauge is *huge*. I like to do socks, and most of my stash is fingering- or sport-weight, and any attempt to do loom knitting with fine yarn would result in ... disaster, pretty much. ;)

Are there knitting looms that have finer gauges, especially ones designed for socks? And does anyone have any experience with them / know which brands are decent / etc?

Here's one. Looks like they come in many sizes.

If the gauge on the commercial looms is to large it is not hard to make one. Do a web search on "making a knitting loom" and you will find a lot of directions.
