View Full Version : Bulky Yarn + US 5 dpn = ?

Hi all,

Would it be a complete disaster or cozy bliss if someone (um...I) were to hang the rules and try knitting mittens on size 5 dpns with bulky weight yarn? I have some gorgeous Moda Dea Surf and Turf and though the label suggests using US 11 needles, I'm tempted to use a smaller size (partly because I don't own the larger sized dpns I ought to use). Has anyone else ever attempted this?

Best wishes,

Aramis

No, I don't recommend that at all. That would give you a really stiff fabric. It would also affect the sizing of the pattern unless you create your own.

Best idea though is to do a swatch and see if YOU like how it feels.

It's going to be way too stiff. Do you have any needles about size 9 or 10? That would work much better, though still a pretty dense knit.

Thanks everyone! I've tried it with size 9 dpns and it's working just swell. It's Moda Dea yarn in Surf and Turf in case anyone is looking for a really lovely choice for a men's sweater. These will be mittens, but anywho, thank you all for the help!
