I don't know about the rest of you, but it's COLD in my part of the world!

So, I've been busy knitting slippers for me and my family, to keep our feet warm when we are at home. Are any of the rest of you making slippers? (Knit or Crochet)

Let's share photos of our slippers, and give each other links to our favorite patterns.

I'm planning on using up a lot of my stash to make as many as I can handle. LOVE wearing my comfy slippers! :)

My current favorite pattern is "Red Hot Slipper Socks (http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi?language=&store=%2Fstores%2Flionbrand&search=1&searchText=red+hot+slippers&submit.x=39&submit.y=3)" on the Lion Brand website. I'm using up leftovers of bulky yarn to make them. So far, I've made two pair of slippers, and they are SO COMFY! cloud9

Another pattern I like a lot is the "Cozy Slipper Socks (http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi?language=&store=%2Fstores%2Flionbrand&search=1&searchText=cozy+boucle+slippers&submit.x=31&submit.y=10)", made with Lion Boucle yarn. I've made a few pairs for my grandma, and she loves them!

Last year, I made a pair for my mother-in-law, using two strands of worsted weight yarn held together throughout. (Red Heart Super Saver and Caron Simply Soft) The pattern was "Slipper Sock (http://www.tropicalyarns.com/index.cfm?PID=22&ProdID=317)" from the Tropical Yarns website.

Another favorite is "Tropical Punch Slipper Socks (http://www.beartoes.com/patterns/tropicalpunch.html)", which uses two strands of Caron Simply Soft held together throughout.

I'm wanting to learn how to crochet, so I would like to know of a VERY SIMPLE crochet pattern for making slippers. Any recommendations for a real beginner? I have never followed a crochet pattern before, so be gentle with me. :pout:

My own personal favorites are fuzzy feet slippers. They are knit like a giant sock then felted back down to size. Here is the pattern: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/PATTfuzzyfeet.html

Ooo! Those look COMFY! :inlove:

I have a list of 8 people that need slippers from me, so I'll be trying different patterns out. Can't have enough slippers!

I really NEED to make a few slippers, but don't have any thick yarn on hand. Did you say that you just double up your regular yarn and make slippers from it?
...and how do you slippers differ from socks? They look like complicated sock patterns to me. I need easy-peasy slipper patterns! help!

I make my felted slippers with worsted weight wool. (single strand) Of course, this kind of slipper requires 100% wool since acrylic and cotton will not felt.

Happy knitting!

Last year one of my charities needed slippers and I used double strand worsted weight acrylic yarn and it worked just fine. I used acrylic since that is what they wanted. I did use some 3D fabric paint on the bottoms so they weren't slick since they were going to a veterans home.

Recently, I read a blog that said to use rubber shelf liners to cut shoe soles to sew to the bottom of slippers to make them slip-proof. http://hakucho.blogspot.com/2007/03/these-boots-clogs-were-made-for-walking.html

Today, I was at the dollar store, and found some rubbery shelf liners. Yay! I got 4 rolls in different colors: black, beige, blue, and white.

Now, I can make slippers for my Grandma, and she can wear them without worrying about slipping.

Hey...what 'cha doing reading blogs? You're supposed to be bailing me out with a mitten thumb video :roflhard:

But, on the slipper front...let us know how you sew them on. I need to try that. When my slippers met my sister's hardwood floor stairs during my Thanksgiving trip....not a pretty picture. I've never EVER had a bruise that big or colorful in all my days!
