Help Measurement needed: Baby Bonnet

I spent days looking for a pattern for a knitted baby bonnet and could not find what I was looking for so I decided to create my own.....the only problem is that I need to measure a newborn to around 3 month old baby's head.....I need to know a measurement from bottom of ear across top of the head to the bottom of the other ear. Does anyone out there have access to a baby that can measure for me with a tape measure.....I sure would appreciate it. Then I will be glad to share the pattern once it is finished.

This is what I have so far (have not put on the ties yet) but think it might be too large and next time I will tone down the ruffle....check out attached picture.....

i am at the moment doing baby/children crochet pattern and i have a bonnet made it is 12 inches from the tie to the tie for 0 to 3 months, hope this helps
