View Full Version : FO: Uncle Argyle Scarf for DH
It was a very slow knit, but I love how this scarf turned out. When I started it was intended for son #1, but my husband fell in love with it so I'm giving it to him for his b'day next month. The pattern is Uncle Argyle Scarf in Son of Stitch n Bitch (http://www.amazon.com/Son-Stitch-Bitch-Projects-Crochet/dp/0761146172/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1221523045&sr=1-1). The yarn is Cascade 220 Superwash in Walnut Heather (862) and Forest Heather (866). Modeled here by son #4:

WOW! Was what I said when I first saw the picture. That is absolutely gorgeous. I have never tried to do an argyle and this is done beautifully. How did you get the pattern on both sides? Double knit, a tube, two sewn together? Are there other options? I am so impressed by this scarf. It is so long and such a lot of work went into it. Nice edges too. And a handsome model. Perfect. Now that DH got this one what do you have in mind for #1 son?

It is doubleknit, and my first experience with doubleknit. I had a heck of a time figuring out how to tension the yarn while holding two strands (I'm an English knitter). Finally got the hang of it and it went pretty smoothly from that point. I don't know any other way to get the reverse pattern on the other side, but there probably are alternatives.
Instead of the argyle scarf, son #1 has requested one of those super-long ski caps that doubles as both cap and scarf. But now son #4 wants an argyle scarf, and I have to make one for myself, so I'll be doing more doubleknitting for sure.

Anyhoo, your colorwork is just magnificent! I have yet to summon up the courage to do an entire colorwork project!
FYI: I did sign up and pay for a 3-hours Entrelac Scarf class next Saturday! Mastering entrelac was a 2008 Goal of mine. That, and sock knitting, which I have yet to do...except that I taught myself to do magic loop knitting using Amy's video clip. I'm getting a little closer! ;) Working with dpn's for an entire sock will NOT HAPPEN. I just hate manipulating all those needles. :eyes:

Don't you just love magic loop? I haven't touched DPNs since I learned ml.
