:happydance: :) :) Hi -

I am trying to make a soccer ball for my brother for Christmas. I don't understand what "p1 between stitches" means.

that is probably an increase.
Weird text for that. But I assume that you are supposed to lift the bar between the stitches up onto your left needle, purl it (usually one does that through the back loop of that bar, to avoid holes) and continue.
Do you have a link to the pattern?
And did you check carefully... is there really no glossary / expalantion of what exactly they want of you?

Edit: found the link: http://www.yanaknits.com/projects/soccer-ball/

there really is no text explanation about that step. But follow my instruction above and ready you are.

Yes, I would think that means to pick up the yarn strand between sts and purl it to increase one. Make sure you purl that st with a twist so it doesn't leave a small hole. Or you could put a backwards loop on the needle which doesn't really have a purl or knit to it.

that is an option, too. right.
