I have completed the panda hat pattern that is on the knitting central site. I have come to this strap and cannot get this in my head.Does this strap go from the sides to the back? Why do you have to pick up the 20 stitches on both sides.I am not dumb just
confused.

I would really love to hear from anyone who has boys 12 month old
winter hat patterns. They need to have ties or earflaps.

You posted this in the Blog Forum which is only for blog threads. I've moved it here to Pattern Central where it'll get more attention and is where it belongs. I also merged the two posts since they are on the same topic so you don't need two separate posts. Also...please give people time to answer.

I'm confused...are you looking for hat patterns or do you just want help with the one you started? Is this the pattern link?

What pattern is it? Your description is too vague, please copy the link where you found it.

Okay, cast on 12 or 20 sts depending on which size you're making, then pick up sts across the left side of the hat at the bottom edge, pick up one st in the seam at the back, then pick up sts across the other side of the hat and cast on another 12 or 20 stitches. Work 3 rows in garter stitch then the buttonhole rows. This makes a band that goes around the sides and back of the hat making a kind of flap. The cast on sts make a chin strap that overlaps, there's a picture of how it looks at the very last page of the pdf.

There's a video on how to pick up stitches on the Tips page.

I've made many versions of this "Toasty Topper" from the winter 2007 Knitty http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter07/PATTtoasty.html

Different page, but looks like the same one I posted as far as the hat goes. :??

Sorry Jan, I was referring to the link that moon2 had posted. Just did a quick search on google to figure out what they meant. Sorry for the confusion!

No, no..not a problem! Seriously though check the link I gave against yours..it appears to be the same pattern on two different sites...even the kid and designer is the same! Maybe I'm just missing something...
