puppy pattern help!

a very helpful member on here suggested a puppy pattern to me a few days ago and I have been working on it diligently! Here it is:

I do not know how to do intarsia yet, and so am working the pattern in stockinette without changing color...anyway, I've just started the feet and legs section and am now stuck (embarrassingly) on the first row! I've cast on 30 sts, and worked it as follows -- increased, knit 13 then increased, then repeated it (as the patterns says work this row twice. However, somehow i keep ending up with 4 extra stitches on the left needle before getting to the end of the row!! can someone tell me what I'm doing incorrectly? Thanks for your help!

am i just not counting correctly? lol...I feel like there is something simple I'm missing with the feet and leg section of the puppy pattern??? lolol..any help wld be so appreciated!!!

You should work the first set of directions on the one row--increase, work 13, increase, increase, work 13, increase. If you use a kfb increase, you'll use all 30 stitches and will end up with 34.

Purl row 2

On the 3rd row, you'll increase, knit 15, increase, increase, knit 15, increase. You'll use all 34 stitches and end up with 38.

ohmygosh! Thank you, Ingrid! My mind just "blanked and blipped" and the stitches werent making sense for some reason...Once again, I just have to say how much I love the ppl on this site--everyone is always always so helpful!!!
