difficulty with pattern

I'm a new knitter, and I making my first blanket. It's my second cable project, so I don't have a lot of experience. The cable row says:

C8F: slip next 8 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. K4, then K4 from cable needle.

So, what happens to the other 4 sts?
The instructions for the cable row are:

1st row: (RS) K4, *P2, C8F, P2, K8. Rep from * to last 6 sts. P2 K4

Any ideas?

Usually when the cable is specified as C8F it means that the whole cable is 8 stitches - so it should read "slip 4 st onto a cn and hold in front, k4 then k4 from cable needle".

Yeah, that's a typo, it should be 'slip 4 sts to cable needle' not 8.
