Has anyone started organizing this knitting community with knitting caps and hats for children and adults in Japan?

The rescue orgs have stated they have no means to distribute clothing. Go to www.redcross.org to see how you can help otherwise. Japan is a wealthy country, and I doubt that hats are among their greatest needs right now.

Some groups on Ravelry are thinking of selling knitted pieces, and sending the money to the Red Cross. You might check them out.

There is a thread in The Lounge about this.

http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103731 just saw it and thought I'd paste it. My 2 cents... I think money to the Red Cross or whatever your favorite international charity is is a better idea than knitted items in this situation. That way they can spend the money for whatever it is they need most urgently which these foundations will be aware of. Like bottled water. :)
