View Full Version : Getting Paid for Designing Patterns

I like designing my own sweaters and would like to find out how to sell my patterns. Does anyone know how this works? Who buys them? How much do I have to do to write them up and how much do the companies provide for editing? How much do the pattern companies pay? Which ones are good to work with? I am not prolific enough to create a whole line of patterns. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Check with Knitpicks. I know they feature patterns by independent designers.

If you are computer-savvy, you can create pattern documents, and sell them on Ravelry. www.ravelry.com (http://www.ravelry.com)

You can sell patterns on ebay and etsy.
Starting a website or blog wouldn't be a bad idea so you could start featuring some of your designs.
You could also consider submitting a pattern and/or article to knitty. http://www.knitty.com/subguide.php
