Why would anyone post spam on websites like this? Other than knowing they are harrassing a large group of people (if they get some kind of thrill from that), making a lot of clutter for the posters to wade through, why do they do it? Are they daft in the head? Perhaps they are spamming sites because it gives them a chance to control something in their otherwise life that they have no control over. If that's the case then they need help.

I was a member on a quilting site that had to be shut down because of such junk. It got so bad that there was maybe one good post for every 20 or so bad ones.

Spammers get paid per post sometimes or they hope that people will click on their links and they get paid per click. We're pretty vigilant about catching them and Sheldon's implemented some tools so once we get one they can't post again.

Thanks for all the hard work that goes into this site. Prior to posting this thread (more like a rant) I spotted what looked like spam and sent two notices and then saw more of the same. So this person has been very busy. It has to make your day less enjoyable too.

This is a great site, more user friendly than some knitting sites. I hope the spammers, etc. won't eventually cause this site to shut down.

Love you guys and the non-spamming people on here.

Ooops, I typoed, I meant Sheldon (forget which site I'm on sometimes).

The mods see your notices in our inboxes, they'd sent 6 messages by the time I got online, but I got the person.

We had the same questions till Sheldon told us how they work. Some of them aren't even human.

We try to be quick about banning them. :) I've also been pretty good about spotting potential spammers and zapping them early before they've actually had a chance to post.
