Possibly you're looking for "chunky" yarn? It's also referred to as "bulky" or maybe "extra bulky," depending on the maker. Weight class #5 (possibly #6) in the Craft Yarn Council of America weight classification system (see here (http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/weight.html) for a complete table of yarn weights and descriptions).

Chunky or bulky are a number 5 on the yarn scale. (6 is super bulky) There aren't as many as worsted, but still quite a few of them around. What fiber type do you want? Are you looking to purchase in a yarn store or craft store like Michaels, Joannes or Hobby Lobby? Here's a few from both types of stores and there dozens more-

Plymouth Encore Chunky (http://www.plymouthyarn.com/index.php?nav=cYarn.yarnDetail&yarnid=000036&searchcollection=000005) (also comes in tweed and colorspun)
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chunky (http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/yarnInfo.cgi)(and others)
Bernat Softee Chunky (http://www.bernat.com/product.php?LGC=softeechunky&SPP=999) (and others)
Patons chunky yarns (http://www.patonsyarns.com/search.php?yswt=5&advys=y)
