What is the best length cord for socks

Hello friends,

I am about ready to knit socks. I have a set of circulars, and the pattern calls for size 2 which I have.

However generally speaking, what length should the cord be? 24 inch, 16 inch,,,,??

Oh and I am loving the magic loop and use it faithfully!!!

I think it just depends upon the method that you'll be using to make socks. I know that if you're using circulars you can use either 2 circs or 1 and do ml. The book that I had gotten to learn how to make two socks at once(which I have yet to try lol) recommended 40" circs, but I'm not sure if the same go for just mling one sock. Either way good luck!! :)

The answer should be that it's personal choice. I much prefer a 40" cable. I am using 32 right now and it's doable in a pinch, but it's not my favorite.I feel like it stretches the stitches out too far on the loop ends while they are waiting to be knit. I don't have any trouble with 40" cables.

I do 2 at a time and prefer the 47" length. This gives plenty of room with no stretch on the stitches.
