So, I needed a break from the afghan, and knowing I wouldn't finish it in time anyways, I made this for the fair instead.
http://azknits.azure-m.com/2010/11/free-pattern-quick-cable-slouch-hat.html

It was my first experience knitting in the round, my first experience with cables, and my first experience with double pointed needles. And, all in all, I am quite pleased with it. It is the first of my 'winter set' I am working on, I will mainly use it for ice-skating. Coming soon will be scarf (WIP), legwarmers, and fingerless mittens (or gloves, if I can find a pattern).
I have yet to order my double pointed needles, the ones I used on this project were 'homemade'. No comment.
This is little sis posing for me. It is slightly too large on her, but....

Here is a pic from the back. (Sorry, I couldn't get two pics on the same post.)
Oh, yes, and I made it in about four hours, would have been quicker had I the proper tools.

Wow! This doesn't look like a first-time anything! More like a pro. Super job on the hat, and I bet it'll get you a ribbon for sure at the fair.

Cute model, too!

Beautiful hat and a very successful venture into knitting in the round and cables. It looks like you've been doing this for years. It's going to be part of a gorgeous set. Well done!

very nice, I am about to knit my first slouchy hat for my daughter, I am thinking of doing this pattern instead of the one I was going to do. Thanks for posting.
What type of increase did you use for the M1's, may I ask?

I wasn't exactly sure which increase I was supposed to use, so I just used M1A.

Can someone tell me if that is what I was supposed to do?

Great job! :cheering: Sometimes I think the best way to learn a new skill (or skills) is to pick a project that you like and learn as you go. Very nice pattern and color choice, too.

Your hat looks gorgeous, and the fact that it was a first attempt at knitting in a round and cables kind of makes it even better. Homemade needles? You don't have to comment but feel free to feel proud that your creativity and resourcefullness goes beyond knitting.

This is so cute! How did you learn how to do this so quickly! Pass on some knitting wisdom to me!

You turned out a very lovely hat. It doesn't shout "beginner", that's for sure. Would love to see it on the ice with the rest of the set.

Yes, I hope the rink will freeze this year! It was too mild last winter to freeze, so our Christmas ice skates were of little use. :)

Oh yes, please: cold enough to freeze the rink and the canal, cold enough to freeze the mosquitos.
