Hey guys, so I decided to hold off on making my cloak until I become a little it more experienced with knitting, but anyhow, I was wondering if this scarf pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/drop-stitch-scarf-2 was too girly to be a gift for my boyfriend. he loves the fact that I can knit and make stuff... I just don't want it to be too girly for him to wear

Well, I think it could be considered to girly since its sorts lacy, but you know him best. I'd probably stick to guy colors though.

My husband would be more likely to wear this type of scarf though.

I'm using a dark red color and the lace seems to look really nice in it... I might make another one for him of a different pattern and keep this one for myself if he doesn't like it. :p I love him to death  :aww:

I would keep it for myself. I would ask him. Maybe go to the yarn store and have him pick out what color he wants. One that I always like for guys is reversible. I can't tell you how many stitches to cast on because it's an individual thing. Some people like wide scarves and some like skinny ones. This is cast on in a multiple of 3 stitches. What this means is that you would cast on with something like 15, 18, 21 stitches. However wide you want it. You can maybe do this in a worsted weight #4 or a bulky weight #5 or 6. Look at the number on the yarn wrapper. It's a simple pattern. The first row is knit 3, purl 3 across. The second (wrong) side row is k1, p1 across. Repeat these two rows for pattern. This gives you what looks like a rib stitch but it lies flat and doesn't stretch. I believe the name of this is a Twin Rib. It looks the same on both sides. Most scarves are 6 feet long, but you can make it longer if you want. You can add fringe to it or not. Ask James what he wants.

he and I decided on a single right sided cable scarf in red black and white, changing colors every 13 rows, it's a fun little project for our 8 months :)

Congrats on your anniversary. Maybe you can keep the Twin Rib pattern in mind for quick Christmas gifts.
