Herringbone Stitch

Hey Everyone :waving:

I am new to knitting and I have been practicing the herringbone stitch so I can get good at it and eventually make a scarf. Right now my swatch of it looks okay, but the sides are curling under a lot. Is this normal or am I potentially doing something wrong?

It can curl, it helps to use a needle about 3 sizes larger because it's a dense stitch. So if you're using worsted a size 11 wouldn't be too large.
