question regarding baby poncho

Hi all:
I have 'just' taught myself to knit, and am caring for a baby and toddler (18 mos and 3 yrs).
I would love to make the ponchos as a gift for my first projects, but how would i adjust the pattern to be able to use 5.5 mm needles?

What size needles does the pattern call for? Check your gauge with whatyouhave, you might not need to adjust!
