View Full Version : Sewing/seaming together finished bootie/weaving in ends

Okay... I have finished the bootie and bound off like the pattern said and now I am told to weave in all of my ends along the work, not up the side (which I am not sure I understand). Then I am to lay my work out and gently seam. Join the heel and the foot with a flat seam. Any ideas on how to explain this to me? I do not sew. I want them to look nice as they are a gift. I watched the video on stitching on this site, but it is not quite what I am looking for.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

The book "Knitting for Baby" by Melanie Falick has awesome finishing instructions. The illustrations are sooo clear. I recommend checking your library to see if they have it....my tiny small town library does!

Weave in ends going across the work (parallel with a row).
Seam them using a needle threaded with yarn. If you gently open the stitches by pulling the fabric widthwise, you can see horizontal bars in between two stitches. With your needle, go behind each bar, alternating between sides so you sort of lace up the side, then pull the yarn snug. Not tightly, because you don't want to pucker the bootie, but pull snuggly none the less.
Hope this helps!

Silver, thanks for the info. I think that makes sense. I am going to finish them off tonight.
Julie, I have been interested in that book, so I think I will check out at the library. Thanks.
