Here's a piccie of Hildies WONDERFUL present.... others said things like "Yarn Ho" and "Queen of the Yarniverse"... I cant remember all of them, but they were all GREAT!

(And, it wouldnt be an IL Knit-together if there werent boobies or butts or SOMETHING!)

That poor waiter at Cheeseburger in Paradise couldnt take his eyes OFF of Hildie's "gifts to the world"! :roflhard:

See ... she didn't even deny that she stole that bag right out from under me. I think I broke my ankle :limps away:

Wow, it's so much fun just to look at the pictures that I can only imagine how much fun you all had getting together! I was thinking about you all as I slaved away at work today. Those wine glasses are so cute Hildie! You are multi-talented :)

Another great IL get-together...Mosaic was great (aside from the fact that we walked in and they said, "who? here for what?" We all got some great deals...I couldn't believe the 50 magazines!! :happydance:

For once I did not forget my camera! The batteries DID die right before the big group shot, but everyone else got that one. Not everyone got this one though...

Fun, fun! Hildie's gazonga's are stealing the show, and Andrea's BLUE eyes are SURE to charm the fellas as well!

Julie's salad looks like a phallic monument of sorts, and Kelly, I am so jealous of the 50 cent magazines! That yarn is beautiful, Mary!

MORE PHOTOS PLEASE! :D

:waving: I'm home. I need sleep really badly but I just wanted to report that I had a GREAT time with all of you (but sorely missed all of you who weren't there!). After some sleep (aka. tomorrow) I will post my pictures. I was one of those who had a camera in my face A LOT!

Thanks again ladies for letting me come play & to Hildie for letting me stay with her!

DotMom61
07-16-2006, 12:38 AM
Sara!!! I was just sitting her hoping you got home OK. I was worried about you getting all sleepy! Can't wait to see your pics!!

So glad you could come and share the day with us!

Next time I'm staying around to eat and/or drink. That looks like fun------although I am very scared by Julie's (DM) salad.

If you look very closely at the picture of my yarn haul, you can see my pretty gift from Hildie. Mine says Queen of the Yarniverse and it is nestled right on the much coveted Koigu. Thanks, Hildie!! :D  :D

Sara, glad you made it home save and sound.

DotMom61
07-16-2006, 01:05 AM
My salad might have looked a little scary, but it was YUMMY!!!! Those were big ole plantains sticking out of it, and it was loaded w/ shredded chicken and other really yummy stuff.

My glass from Hildie says "Stitchy Woman."

Glad you made it home safely SJ!!

What a great group! What a great lookin' group!!!
Wish I could have been there and met those I haven't met already.
(Green with envy.)

Hey Hildie,
You mean Dixon has something other than Arthur's now?
I won't mention that to Jim, I'll surprise him. :roflhard:

BTW, have you heard anything about Aunt Mary's closing.
I seldom bought yarn there, but I went there for Susan Bates needles and hooks,
and she has great books.

Ingrid
07-16-2006, 07:52 AM
A lovely, happy bunch of women surrounded by beautiful yarn! What could be better?

Hildie, what a fantastic idea on the glasses! You are so clever! (will I see that in quotes?)

Man I need to win the lottery so I can get a jet. I'll hire Paolo as the pilot and we can pick up everyone else who couldn't make it.

Looks like you all had a great time!

Hildie, what a fantastic idea on the glasses! You are so clever! (will I see that in quotes?)

Oh no!!

Mmmmmm....Paolo would make a great pilot for our jet! But wait--who would serve us then? Andrew? ;)

Ingrid

:rofling: Andrew could double as security on the ground and 'steward' in the air. Andrea wouldn't need a flight to IL, so we wouldn't have to worry about her hogging his time.

:fingerwag: No ladies, I would have a very hard time sharing him!! But he would make a nice Paolo! And methinks I'll show him the pipcture of Hildies boobs--if it's anything like our poor waiter's reaction ( "Yes ma'am! "Wait, what did you order?" ), he'll be sure to go to Stitches!

Here's my 3 whole pictures I took

Oh, and I picked the "Knaughty Knitter" glass because of my current lusting over my rookie

And, HOW, praytell, is he supposed to manage flying a plane and massaging my feet at the SAME TIME???

It's a little unnerving that my boobs made center stage at the knittogether. I'm never wearing that shirt again, that's for sure.

And If Paolo and Andrew are coming to our next "activity", I'm bring Jason the waiter. :eyebrow:

I posted my pics in my blog, here they are!!! (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?p=212656#212656)

I also posted completed pics of the wine tote on the watcha knitten forum.

SJ and I had so much fun! We planned on going to bed early, buuuuuuuut we were up till 1am! She brought me the most FABULOUS presents--a yankee candle, TWO skeins of casecade 220 (in the pic she posted) AND she even brought treats for the kitties!!!! Thank you SJ!!!!

I'm glad everyone liked the wine glasses. I was going to bring some wine for us to try them out, but I figured we'd all be silly enough WITHOUT it, so I didn't (I was right). Plus, i had no way of knowing that KK would be so buzzed from that gigantic drink she ordered that she would drop her for TEN TIMES at the restaurant.

I love "knit-togethering" vicariously through the photos! I can almost hear the laughter. How did you guys work out getting to use that room for your get-together?

DotMom61
07-16-2006, 05:34 PM
Sandy ... that's a room where they have classes, apparently, and I guess it just wasn't being used. Plus, they had another table in the same room. I'm sure the other ladies were TOTALLY jealous of all the fun we were having! I also know that they probably made enough $$ off of all of us that they could've cancelled any class they had going on there & done OK.

Oh, and someone asked what Andrea was doing in that picture: She was acting out chicken recipes.

KellyK

It's a little unnerving that my boobs made center stage at the knittogether. I'm never wearing that shirt again, that's for sure.Liar. Your boobs are their own entity. Its nothing you can change. Its like I have THREE friends when I visit you and I love them ALL.

That wasnt the chicken recipe, DM.... that was the poor guy with the OWL glasses that reported his wife "missing" But, yeah... Andrea is BEAUTIFUL. I WUV her. The chicken recipe was "smothered" chicken (said with her hand over her mouth) or "shake and bake" chicken (said whilst SHIMMYING!). She's SO FUNNY. :|

Sandy, every LYS we've called has been MORE than happy to host our group. I tell them I have a group of knitters and that we like to visit different LYSs, sit, knit and shop. Some (well, two) even give us a group discount! (We need to go BACK to Naperville, btw! 20%!!)

Trudy.... we would LOVE for you to visit your rich aunt and therefore us!!! But, please dont pee. :?

Im off to look at Hildie's pics!!

Oh shoot!! I forgot to post this last night:

I talked to Hildie about this already, and she asked me to post something about it here ...

I was washing the lovely wine glass that Hildie gave me on Saturday, and when I went to dry it, some of the paint wiped off. :crying: I was so sad ... if any of you have yet to wash yours, you may want to be careful & just let it air dry or maybe blot it.

I'm going to look for some glass paint when I'm at Joann's next time so I can repair mine. It now sort of says "Itchy Woman" instead of "Stitchy Woman" ... :roflhard:

Wow -- how did this thread end up on page FOUR!? :??

I just had to post and tell y'all about the shop I visited last Tuesday -- it's in Big Rock, so a little bit of a hike for some, but it's a straight shot off of I-88 so not hard to get to at all. It's about 20-25 mintes from Naperville.

Esther's Place (http://www.esthersplacefibers.com/index.cfm)

The emphasis is on spinning -- she sells lots of fiber, for spinning and felting -- but there is also quite a bit of gorgeous handspun yarn for sale. The web site has a lot of info -- you can have retreats there, take tours, and of course there are classes. If you are in the area I recommend stopping by! :D

KellyK
08-14-2006, 01:04 PM
OOOH That sounds AWESOME! We'll have to put that on our list.

I think there was a pseudo-decision made at Stitches to have our next knit-together in Downers Grove at Knitche... they have a full-service espresso bar and baked goods!!

DotMom61
08-14-2006, 01:09 PM
Julie!! We missed you this weekend!! I'm glad you go to go yarn-shop hopping a bit, though. ;-)

And, yes, Knitche -- judging by the people from the shop that we met -- sounds like a FABULOUS place for our next gathering. I can smell the baked goods now. ;-)

I was also wondering if anyone had heard from LeslieA. I haven't looked to see if she's posted recently, but I was thinking about her yesterday.

DotMom61
08-14-2006, 01:15 PM
:yay: JULIE!!! I just went and did a map on this place ... it's just over 20 miles from here!! FIELD TRIP!!!!! :happydance:

It sounds awesome! Have you gotten any food from their farm?

Andrea
08-14-2006, 02:04 PM
Also, we could put Gene Ann's (http://www.geneannsyarns.com/) in Barrington on the list! I've been there a couple times and they were also at Stitches, and they said they have tables upstairs for groups. She said they looooove groups!

:fingerwag: We cannot let this thread drop that low ever again!

Hello IL knitters -- I've missed you guys! I was on vacation 4th of July week and then the last couple of weeks, and spending most other weekends at our camper so my online time has been extra low this summer...and I've really missed KH!! I'm about to check out the pics from Stitches Midwest :-) . Even thought I missed the big Stitches get-together AND BBQ :verysad: , I still got in lots of relaxing knitting time. I visited Sutters Golden Fleece knitting ship in Boulder Junction, WI, and got a Knitting Pure and Simple pattern for a hooded tunic and all the yarn for the project xxx (Thanks KellyK for the recommendation of Knitting Pure and Simple patterns - it!). I also took MaryB's advice and tried socks on DPNS, and did an Oregon Tote based on DotMom's advice! (loved both projects, BTW ... pics to follow!) I'm like a sponge for all of your advice :notworthy: !!

I hope I'll be able to make the next get-together... I'm with Kirochka - Downers Grove?? :rofling: On the other hand, a latte and baked goods could push me to make a trip (that coming from the woman who is on her way to a weight watchers meeting :?eyebrow: :blooby: )

:yay: Holly!!! :yay:

We've missed you!! It's so nice to see you here again and hear about all the stuff you've been working on. I hope you can join us at the next gathering. And, I, too *should* be waddling off to a WW meeting. Instead, I'm getting ready to make Cinnamon Rolls w/ my daughter. :shifty:

Oh, and Downers Grove is near the intersection of I-355 & I-88.

Karen and Andrea could just hop on I-90 to I-290 S. to I-355 and you'd probably be there in less than an hour. Holly, you could drive to my house and ride with me. (I remember how you feel about those darned interstates.)

Vicki...the spinning classes look especially evil, 'cause they include the rental of a Schacht Matchless wheel. Nothing like getting hooked on an $850 wheel...

Julie, I haven't gotten their produce yet, but I want to! For some reason I have a hard time actually getting to farmer's markets.....

I was looking at a couple of the other spinning classes that don't include the wheel. You need to bring your own. There is one that takes you from carding to spinning a designer yarn....looked interesting. Also one of the weaving classes look like fun. They also include renting the loom!

I am part of an organic farm coop and I LOVE it. I use Timber Creek Farm http://www.tcforganics.com They are out of Yorkville and a get a delivery to my door every week. The produce is fabulous and the price is about the same (maybe slightly higher but not enough for the wallet to notice) as regular non-organic produce from Jewel! And you feel good about it because it's organic and it supports local farmers!

This (http://www.walkupheritagefarm.com/)is the organic farm we bought a share in this year! We don't get deliveries, though - we have to go pick up the produce after work every Wednesday.

If we're not, we should be, Mary!!! :happydance:

As a matter of fact, I was talking w/ my Alapaca friend the other day. She called to tell me that she has her Fiber Day Seminar all ready to go! She had originally planned on doing it the weekend of 9/23 -- and she still is doing one that weekend -- but she wanted to give our group our OWN DAY :yay: !!

This is FABULOUS, especially since I am going to be gone the weekend of the 23rd.

Anyway -- and I know this is short notice -- she and I talked about 9/17 ... will that work for anyone?????? Pleeeeeaaassse!!!

I'll see about 10/14, though for a bday get-together!! :balloons: Where is Chix, again? The 14th isnt necessarily the ONLY date... I was just thinking that Al may have something planned the weekend right before or after my BDay, which is the 24th. Lemme talk to him and see if he had anything in mind... or, if not, we can decide on a date, at least.

I'm available the 21st and the 28th? ('cause, really, this is all about whether or not *I* can make it, right?)

Also, I just talked w/ Susan from the alpaca farm by us, and she is all ready for us on Sunday 9/17!!! :woohoo: She has asked that we be there @ 1 o'clock. Does that work for everyone? Please PM me (or call, if you have my number) with your RSVP, and I will get you their address. It's only about 5 minutes from my house, and we can carpool from here to there, if you like, or you can just meet us @ the farm.

Susan also told me that they had a premature birth a couple of days ago, but the cria seems to be doing pretty well. And they were in the barn most of the night because they have another one in labor with some complications. :( Hopefully everything will go well with that. She is so very soft-hearted re: these mamas and babies.

Vicki, I don't know where you're coming from, but it looks like the farm is a straight shot on McDonald off of Randall (it had better be, or the map is wrong). 2.6 miles, according to the map the farm's site links to.

Well, I *did* bring my camera, but after driving to pick the kids up from Grandma and putting together next week's schedule for the kids, I'M BEAT!!! I need to go to bed.

I'll try hard to get the pictures posted tomorrow, but I'll warn you that I have a busy day tomorrow, and it's not very likely I'll get to this.

Also, my battery died before I could get any animal pictures. :pout: Sorry, Hildie. I guess that just means you need to get better and come see Hildegaard the Alpaca for yourself!!! (I *did* get a picture of her combed & carded fleece, though!)

We had such a GREAT time @ the alpaca farm today. The animals were really happy to see us, and when we walked up to the fence, they all came over to say "hello." The Waldrons have two brand new little babies -- one that was born a month early and is still so tiny, but VERY frisky!!

By the time we left, I was trying to figure out how my family could work the purchase of an alpaca into our budget. Susan has already agreed that it would be a great idea & we could keep it there on their farm so Ron wouldn't miss it so much. Hmm ... ... there just has to be a way.

Julie
09-18-2006, 04:33 PM
The weather was absolutely fabuous! Well, while I was there, anyways :D I left at 3 and on my way home it poured and poured.

The alpacas are soooo sweet...especially the babies! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: There's one baby who was born prematurely last week -- 8 pounds instead of the normal 16-ish -- and it was truly amazing how lively she was, jumping all over the place like a puppy. :roflhard:  The other baby was born on Saturday.

They're such beautiful animals, and Sue was a most gracious hostess, giving us the full tour along with a wet felting demonstration. And she let us spin alpaca roving on her wheel. :inlove: (Vicki put us all to shame, of course!)

Holly, she does sell fleece as well as handspun and millspun yarn. It's all gorgeous and so yummily soft.

I have been crazy busy today, and it's not going to get any better before bedtime. The good news is that my house is now almost all picked up (by the children, I might add), DS tried out a Taekwondo class today (and he loved it!), we made it to piano lessons, I have a grocery list to use @ the grocery store this evening, I have the kids' weekly schedules made up, I've talked to my Dad, Kelly, and my sister on the phone today, and I've hauled out several bags and boxes of things that need to go to Goodwill.

Right now I have to get dinner on the table for the kids so I can get DS to Boy Scouts in 30 minutes.

This is me: :blooby: running in circles again

Of course, I'm scheduled to work all day Saturday, but if that is when people are going, I'll try hard to switch days or at the very least come visit briefly at lunch time! I have pictures.

First of all ... this is the only picture I was able to get of Hildegard the Alpaca before my camera batteries died:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/HildegardsFleece.jpg

After we admired the fleece, Susan treated us to a description of what happens to the fleece after it's removed from the animal, and then she showed us how to spin!

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/SpinningDemo1.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/SpinningDemo2.jpg

Kelly gave it a try!

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/KellyCanSpin.jpg

So did Julie ... whoops! Where'd the end go?

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/OopsWherestheEnd.jpg

After spinning, Susan showed us how to "wet felt" the fleece ... she has some beautiful examples of fabric that was made this way:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/FeltedTextiles.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/FeltedTextilesUpClose.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/WetFeltingDemo2.jpg

And then we got to see how she turned those fabrics into purses, wall hangings, etc ...

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/FeltedItemsDisplay.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h19/dotmom/Misc/AdmiringFeltedItems.jpg

Please also notice all of the paintings hanging around in the room. She painted ALL of them, and they're just beautiful. She's very talented!

And now I MUST go to bed! :sleepy:

There is a "Sewing & Quilt Expo" going on out here in St. Charles this weekend. I know that doesn't seem to fit, but Wool & Co. is going to be part of the Knitting & Crochet Center - they are even looking for "knitting ambassadors" to help answer questions. Check out their info here. (http://www.woolandcompany.net/WCSG/SewingQuilt.aspx)

Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to make it. :pout: Too many things to catch up on this week, and my sister & her family are flying into Chicago on Sat. for a seminar in Chicago. So, I'll be tied up w/ that part of the weekend.

Hi, Julie!!

We were in St. Charles this week-end for the Scarecrow Fest! Did you see me wave? (I did manage a quick trip to Wool & Co.)

I won't be available next week-end. We will be celebrating Dad's 94th birthday! I think that will take up most of Sat/Sun.

DotMom61
10-09-2006, 03:03 PM
Darn it, Mary!! I wasn't here this weekend, or I probably would have seen you. DD's Girl Scout troop had a display in Lincoln Park, and we would've been there.

Oh well!! Next year. ;-)

I can't be there. My 7yo has his award ceremony for soccer on that day. He would never forgive me if I didn't attend to see him get his first trophey. That is the stuff future therapy sessions are made of.

:cheering: My sister in law -- Charlene -- is going to join us :-) She is currently working on her third felted bag, and has just cast-on to try socks. She doesn't have a knittinghelp account yet, but she is a long time lurker and my great knitting buddy xxx

Julie -- looking forward to meeting your DD! Does she knit yet? My Cub Scout troup is invited to go with the Boy Scouts to "The Worlds Largest Corn Maze" (Richardson's in Spring Grove) on our knitting day. I felt a twinge of guilt about choosing knitting over scouts, but I quickly got over it!! Hopefully, one of the other parents will step up and take the boys.

After consulting mapquest, and acknowledging my irrational fear of the tollway, we will be taking rte. 12 from McHenry most of the way. (Thanks for offering the ride, Julie, but since I'll have Char in the car for moral support and map reading, I'm going to go for it!!)

I know it is a little scary. I am having to speak more often lately and I am nervous sometimes. But as soon as I start to talk and people respond to what I say *most* of the jitters go away and I am just sharing at that point. You'll be GREAT!

Hey IL knitters...this just in from Fringe...

Last week in West Chicago, where Nancy and Veronica live, 23 families tragically lost their homes in a five-alarm fire at the Main Park Apartments. Many of these people have lost the majority of their belongings as well as their irreplaceable memories and personal effects.

Fringe is asking you to dig into your stash and help these families in this season of giving and humanity. We are collecting donations of warm knitted items - hats, scarves, gloves/mittens, socks, sweaters, blankets, whatever - to provide warmth and comfort to those victims, handknitted or otherwise. Please drop off what you can provide between now and 5pm on Wednesday, November 22nd, and we will deliver them to the Neighborhood Resource Center of West Chicago in time for Thanksgiving. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated!

In addition, we will be offering charity hat kits for $5 in the shop. For $5, we'll give you a simple hat pattern and enough yarn to knit it, and then, when you turn the hat back in to donate it, we'll give you back a $5 gift certificate good towards the purchase of anything in our store. We will continue to accept these hats and any other donations through the month of December.

Thanks Julie!!! That's a good idea. Im going to let my LYS know, too.

Any thought on another knittogether in December? May I suggest December 22--it's a Friday, and One More Row is hosting a "finish your gifts" night... we'll be open from 10am-12 midnight. Now I don't expect ya'll to stay till midnight, being so far away, but it might be fun to come in the evening for a few hours if you can!!! I won't show up unil 3:30 or 4, though, because of school.

I'm also teaching several classes there. We're doing a sachet on December 9, and a really cute beaded votive holder on December 9th. Both classes are from 11am-noon, and cost 10 dollars including materials.

I just went to Unique Yarns in Rockford yesterday. OH MY GOODNESS!!! This place is stunning!!! Think W&C in Geneva, but BIGGER and MORE. The people are SUPER nice, and they have tons and tons and tons and TONS of yarn, roving, notions, etc. ANnnnnnnnd their mmmmm is only 10 bucks!!!

WOOT! :cheering:

The 'guild' is small - some months only 2 of us, some months about 10. We have a mixed group of knitters/crocheters/spinners/weavers & fiber producers.

A very relaxed group. As of yet, we're just a bunch of women that get together and work on UFO. We've done a bit of needle felting one month and taught a lady to spin another month.

All ideas are welcomed (and appreciated!)

Well, there's always January.

I've heard about the LYS in Oregon but haven't been out yet. Do you know if she buys or consigns hand spun yarns??
