can i gather from the fact that the language that is written is completely foreign to me (even though it appears to be english! ) that it is for machine knitting? cuz i just looked at a bunch of patterns and said "huh?" :??

is that the one that talks about the lower and upper stitches? cuz i that was when i started wondering if it was machine knitting....of course that was AFTER i nearly started a post asking what they were...lol.

the one scarf confused me too cuz it just said "open the hank and pull it through"....

The bag i want to knit is the white one,i have just looked at them properly
and found most of them confusing, alot of them need a crochet hook and i
cant crochet, the white bag uses 5mm needles,i might still have a go later.

Indonesian scarf? I find it kinda amusing cuz it's actually too hot here to wear a scarf ;) (I make scarves just for fashion accessory hehe) But it looks so unique. Like coming from Borneo or something...

This is a good website, you have to sign up, but most of the patterns are free and you can search for excactly what you want.

I saw this link/ad in the holiday VogueKnitting. There is a pdf of 15 different scarf patterns available at Knitpicks. I think if you search their free patterns you get a link for each individual one but I didn't see this full (21 page) pdf link come up.

If you're interested, here it is (the page you can download the pdf from): Gift List Scarves (http://www.KnitPicks.com/245)

ETA: oops  Celine wrote a thread about this below... I didn't see it. I guess I'll leave this here though so it will be seen when that thread gets old(er).

Here is a site with many, many stitch patterns and I like it very much:

*click* (http://www.musturs.lv/adisanas-abc/raksti/krustoto-valdzinu-raksti/1/)

The links on the sidebar ending with "raksti" will show you the stitch patterns.

I'm sorry to say that the site in not in English - it is a Latvian site.

But I think it's not necessary to learn the Latvian language ;-) - experienced knitters will have no trouble with the most stitch patterns, they are all shown with charts.

And here is another site with many stitch patterns but it is a German site without charts

Stitch patterns (http://www.haekeln.com/strickmuster/index.php)

Clicking in the sidebar will show you lots of stitch patterns. I would be glad to help, if anyone is interested in a German pattern :waving:

I noticed that some of you are having the same problem I've been having lately with accessing knittingpatterncentral.com. Until whatever's causing the glitch is sorted out, you can find the archives in the wayback machine right here (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://knittingpatterncentral.com).

You're welcome. ;)

edit: Sorry, I posted this before I read Rachel's update. (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28736)
the wayback machine is still a good alternative when all else fails.

I save patterns I find on the web as webarchives, not bookmarks. That way, if the website goes down or they take down the pattern, you still have it. I also save the image(s) in the pattern separately to make browsing them in my folders easier. I have hundreds of patterns I have saved over the years.

This (http://grosblog.wordpress.com/2007/05/16/sweet-baby-cap/) Sweet baby cap is a big favourite of mind. I had been looking for a pattern like this that was knitted in a cirlce and was so happy to find this one.

Yeah, the only thing I see are the pictures...It looks like the way it's set up is, you can see the picture of a catalog, but, you still have to order the catalog to get the pattern.

I love this site and go to it often. Getting to the patterns is quite simple. Just click on the initial icon of interest to you (i.e. the 'felted' square that shoes the felted slipper). Doing so opens a new page with all the patterns in that category. If you click on the picture you will see a larger photo. To get to the pattern, you will need to click on one of the flags below the picture. NOTE that MOST of the patterns are written in British English so some of the terms are a little different from 'American' English.

Hope that helps. HAVE FUN!

You click on the picture of the category, then the subcategory/collection and that should take you to individual patterns. Click on the British flag for instructions in English, though some of them have US/Cdn flags so they must be translating them into N American terms.

If you know what you're looking for, just use the pull-down Search option. Ex: select Ladies, input cardigan or pullover (examples are shown), and if you have a desired gauge, enter that (if you don't you'll get all gauges). It'll pull up all matches.

Just watch the gauges... I'm used to most patterns giving the gauge as measured over stocking stitch, but these patterns give it over garter stitch too sometimes, or over a pattern stitch, so its not totally reliable. I like patterns with a gauge of 22st per 10cm, over stocking stitch (baby knits), and originally was searching for that gauge till I realised the discrepancy.

The numbers in the picture links below the flags give the gauge over 4"/10cm so that can be a help.
