i really dont get what felting is and why it needs to be done. I see it all the time and I'm confused. Can someone explain it to me?

Felting is when you take a wool item and put it in hot water and swish it around. The fibers get stuck together and shrink so that the end result is like the felt you buy at the craft store. This is why you NEVER wash your favorite wool sweater in the washing machine. We crazy people WANT to have this happen (in a controlled manner). A really good book that explains the process and has some great patterns is Knit One, Felt Too.

Felted Knits is a GREAT book too!

I love felting: it totally changes the nature of the yarn, and if you make any booboos they dissapear!
