Hmmm, not sure that I could do that....But anytime we go somewhere new, I like to try something I haven't tried before...
But my DH is not so adventurous  so the most exotic thing I've ever eaten was sushi... (it was ok :?eyebrow:) unless you count scrapple (which my DH loves) which is (for those who don't know) exactly what it sounds like... pork scraps processed with spices and cornmeal. You slice it thin and fry it like bacon.
Oh yeah, and I ate chitlins once.

Women--they're smaller and like fancier stuff.

Do you find that knitting has replaced some other 'obsession' in your life? For example--I used to buy shoes all the time. Don't anymore.

What household chore to do you *enjoy* the most?

jodstr2
09-18-2005, 10:54 PM
shredding. something about hearing the blades cutting up all that stuff is oddly satisfying to me :happydance:. now now, before y'all go calling me out as a psycho violent person :roflhard:, I just wanna explain why it's satisfying: last weekend CV bought me a nice 15 page shredder, and I just finished (tonight) shredding SEVEN huuuuuuuge garbage bags of s*** I've been carting around since as far back as 1998. it was mostly stuff I'd toss aside because I didn't wanna throw in the garbage for fear of identity theft or undesirables ordering s*** in my name then changing the address, etc. (like those dang BMG and Columbia House CD things, and preapproved cc offers). so yeah, I feel like I just cleaned my entire house or something. whew :D!

what time is normal Sunday night bedtime for you?

Ingrid
09-18-2005, 11:20 PM

koolbreeze

gimmesanity

Pens: black ink or blue ink?

koolbreeze
09-19-2005, 10:28 AM
i could go into great detail about my pens... you might think i'm insane. but i am very picky about the ink. either color will do but it either has to be thick ink or gel. i hate thin line pens. my dad used to work for the post office and he would bring home those government pens the white ones with the little colored ball on the end... those were the BEST pens!!!

For pet owners: do you allow them on the couch or bed? This is not including your husband/wife or kids..four legged pets only. :roflhard: Smokey and Ocelot are welcome one the couch and bed. The keratin residue bugs me sometimes, but that's what the heavy duty packaging tape is for. As for my other pets .... well ... The Stimp and his co-horts might find it hazardous to their health to sit on the couch or bed. (They are fish ;) )

punkhippiemom
09-19-2005, 12:50 PM

jodstr2

Does anyone besides me like the TV show 7th Heaven?
(Even though Lucy seems to get crazier every year. I'd like to be a wise as Annie re: childraising.)
I've never seen it.
My dream car would be the VW van that some college kids altered so it could run on spaghetti sauce... ecologically sound, I wouldn't have to worry about what to do with all the leftover tomatoes that will no doubt be produced my my garden that I plant next year... and I just love VWs, just about any type.

What's something that really embarasses you?

koolbreeze
09-19-2005, 01:49 PM
when my kids act a fool in the store and i can't beat them cause i don't want to go to jail! so i just threaten to take them to the bathroom.

Same Question

Vendie
09-19-2005, 02:23 PM
Falling down, which I almost did this morning on my way into work...In college my friends joked that I should go on a world tour and fall down in every city --- this was just after a trip to Chicago, where I fell down walking somewhere.

I like this, SAME QUESTION

Silver
09-19-2005, 03:10 PM
Well, my most embarassing moment was in junior high. I had a huge crush on a hottie named Cody. I finally got up the guts to talk to him, and was walking across the courtyard when HE came up to ME!! He said I had a stain on my pants. I had *started*.
I could have DIED.

As of now, nothing embarasses me much. But if that happened again, yeah, I'd die.

Ok... Same question. :)

LisaD715
09-19-2005, 03:14 PM
When my kids yell at each other and call each other ugly names in public.

KoolBreeze....Actually leave the store once, just ask someone to put your items back, and leave the store immediately. It works!!

SAME QUESTION!!!!

punkhippiemom
09-20-2005, 08:19 AM
I went to the DMV with my DS (who was about 2 or 3 at the time) and we had a pretty long wait. DS was being pretty well behaved, I was actually pretty proud of him. Then, for some reason, he notices the woman in front of us (who had been in front of us for the whole time)... reaches up and just slaps her one on the @$$ and says in the loudest voice possible, "Look, Mommy! Butt!! See?"

I just wanted to crawl into the floor....
The woman took it pretty well, though....

OK, since everyone seems to like it, same question.

LisaD715
09-20-2005, 08:23 AM
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: That was sooooo funny!! I am glad I was not at work when I read that!

I already answered, but I heard a great question this morning so I have to ask.

What one famous person would you want to have dinner with and why?

ekgheiy
09-20-2005, 10:32 AM
What one famous person would you want to have dinner with and why? *giggle* hehehe ... well ... I've had a crush on Lance Henriksen for The Longest Time ...  But I'm not too sure that would be able to speak if I were actually sitting across a dinner table from him. :gulp:  Somehow I think that dreamy dinner would lead to an embarrassing moment in my life as I trip and skip over my drool and bulging eyes ... :roflhard: :roflhard:

Same Question!!!!! ;)

KellyK
09-20-2005, 01:35 PM
I would have dinner with Noam Chomsky. He is the most AMAZING public speaker. I deeply admire his linguistic skills, he never uses the same adjective twice...EVER!

Do I have to pick just one????

Ice cream and chips are probably my biggest weaknesses. Not neccesarily together!!

Brenda, how and why are you having lunch with Mr. Obama?? That's cool!

What is the nicest thing someone has done for you?

09-20-2005, 02:17 PM

of course i didn't tell my very republican manager WHAT i was doing with the day off until after he agreed to it...lol. he huffed and puffed but i know it didn't surprise him... :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

punkhippiemom
09-20-2005, 03:54 PM
Wow, that's soo cool... he seems like a relatively honest politician ;)

 Hmmm.... A guy that I had only gone out with once sent me absolutely beautiful gorgeous roses at work because I had happened to mention when we were out that I had never had anyone send me flowers. That about made me cry, specially since I 'just wasn't that into him' and it made me feel horrible about it .... but the gesture was super sweet.

I like that one... What was the nicest thing someone ever did for you?

bekahdrmom
09-20-2005, 05:12 PM
I was waiting for the perfect question to respond to!

The nicest thing anyone's ever done for me was...

When I was 19, I had broken off an engagement with my then-fiance. well, my sister was going to be moving to Utah shortly after. I was in major need of a change, so I wanted more than anything to move with her! But the ex had spent all of my money and I was absolutely broke. So, my best friend paid for me to move!!! And when I offered (repeatedly) to pay her back (over time of course, I owed her a good chunk of change), she adimantly refused. She simply said, "You're my best friend and I want you to be happy. I don't want your money!"

:crying:  :crying:

Okay...Most of us here have had to watch them at some point or another for our kids, so...

What is your all-time favorite kid show (you know, the one you secretly love, but won't admit it)?

Silver
09-20-2005, 05:24 PM
The Jetsons. But come on now, is it *really* a kids show? I think not.

When was the last time you played a kids game, and what was it?
(I played Operation with my kids on Sunday... and lost!) LOL

Ingrid
09-20-2005, 05:26 PM
Uncle Wiggly, yesterday, and I lost. Three times. I was a good sport about it though!

Favorite kids' movie?

KellyK
09-20-2005, 08:21 PM
THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER!! Makes me ROFL EVERY time!

Whose life would you want if you could still be YOU?

LisaD715
09-20-2005, 11:38 PM
If I could still be me, I would want to live Angelina Jolie's life. I know she is not the easiest person to accept, but neither am I. I wouldn't want the whole "other woman" part though. She really does a lot of good in third world countries. She is a good will ambassador and shines a good deal of light on situations that need to be fixed.

Tell us about your first pet.

Mine was Gretchen, she was a blonde terrier who loved bubble gum and could tell the difference. She also loved the vacuum.

Ingrid
09-20-2005, 11:40 PM
The first pet I remember when I was really little was Donald, a green parakeet. He used to cry like me so well that my mother though it was me.

I had a German Shepherd named Gretchen!

I'll leave that question since it's such a good one.

InterNette

I had so many. My Aunt Neddie, ( I am named after) bought me a bunny and I was about 4 and playing house. I had the bunny all wrapped in a baby blanket and played house all day long. Someone finally noticed for a bunny it sure was awlfully cooperative and my Aunt checked. The bunny went to heaven and left his body behind. My Aunt did vow to never buy me a pet ever again and she never did. However my Nanny bought me a Lassie dog and I loved that dog. To me at 5 it WAS Lassie. I was in kindergarden and when I came home Lassie was gone and for a week my Nanny kept telling me Lassie was on vacation. She finally had to tell me Lassie went to heaven also. Someone had poisoned it in our neighborhood, as well as several other dogs and my Nanny couldnt find me another Lassie to replace her. The entire time I had the bunny and Lassie I also had 3 horses. My first step father was very close to my Nanny and continued to be in my life for a few years (married my mom when I was 6 months and divorced before I was a year) Anyway he was a harness horse racer as a hobby and he had a horse named Star and one named Socks and he bought me a pony. As far as I was concerned Star and Socks were mine as well. He would drive me to the stables and we would stop at twin kiss every time and have rootbeer in the mug and french fries after our visit to the horses. That was a short life as well, I was never allowed to see him again when Step Dad number 2 appeared. Never had a pet ever again until I was 18 and living on my own and got my first cat Jessica a chocolate point Siamese.

If you were sitting on a Plane, bumped to first class and they put you next to a celebrity, who would you wish it to be and why?

punkhippiemom
09-21-2005, 09:24 AM
I wouldn't want to be seated next to a celebrity. Most of them I think would drive me absolutely insane, and the few that I do think highly of I would probably be too uncomfortable to actually talk to.

If you could start over again with your career, what would you ideally be doing?

Ingrid
09-21-2005, 10:31 PM
I usually use something a different color and a bit thinner and slipperier than the yarn I'm knitting with. Embroidery floss would be good (if I had any). I used mercandized cotton for the Cozy and am using it for the butterfly shawl and it works well.

Don't use red, though, it can rub off.

Oh, I guess I need a question.

What is your favorite time of day?

Vendie
09-21-2005, 10:38 PM
bedtime :happydance:

I had no idea they were making Rent into a film! I hope that turns out well, I really enjoyed it as a musical. And I completely forgot about Memoirs...I really liked that book.

Anyway...what did you dream about last night?

mintdee
09-21-2005, 11:35 PM
Funny you should ask. I dreamed that I was in class trying to sign and knit at the same time. It was not working to well

Same question next person...

Vendie
09-22-2005, 07:25 AM

punkhippiemom
09-22-2005, 09:50 AM
I don't remember what I dreamed last night, but lately I've been having this recurring dream that always starts out really stressful, and ends with someone yodeling :?? :roflhard: I have no idea WTH that's all about, or why I keep dreaming it...
Oh wait a minute, the first time I dreamed it I was trying to get DS to take a nap (and of course ended up falling asleep while he was wide awake  ) and I think the cartoon he was watching had something on it about yodeling... but why does it keep coming back?

OK, same question...

margie
09-22-2005, 10:28 AM
I can't remember any dreams from last night, but the night before I dreamed I was going to a concert with one of the moms that I babysit for. I had forgotten to say goodbye to DH, and was trying to call him on the cell phone 'cause I felt bad about not saying goodbye. We were walking through some kind of open market, and I could somehow hear my mom on the phone, saying "yes, she can hear us", but I just wanted to talk to DH!! Very strange.

New question: who would you say is the person who has influenced your life the most?

Same question, it is such a good one!!

Well, here's the kicker.... my parents have probably been the biggest influence, but that's because they were right there. However, for me, the person I most wanted to be like is my father's next oldest brother.

NEXT QUESTION: What's the story behind the best score on yarn you've had?

09-24-2005, 08:18 AM
Probably about $150 this past spring...and half of the yarn is STILL just SITTING in my stash!

Next Question: How do you take your caffeine? (I take mine by IV ;) )

margie
09-24-2005, 08:28 AM
Probably about $150 this past spring...and half of the yarn is STILL just SITTING in my stash!

Next Question: How do you take your caffeine? (I take mine by IV ;) )

Mine is bubbling away right now- I drink 2 cups of coffee every morning. Sugar and cream. Yum. Also, I got DH rather addicted to Starbuck's frappachinos lately. And DH doesn't even like to drink coffee!! We joke that going to Starbucks is the $ equivalent of smoking a pack a day. $4 for a coffee, yikes. We try to limit that particular luxury to once a week!
I remember one time when I met Dh's Aunt and Uncle for the first time- this was when Dh and I were dating. Aunt and Uncle are rather wealthy and live in a very fancy house. I felt rather out of my element. We had lunch (in the formal dining room, on the fancy dishes), and afterwards they asked if anyone would like coffee. I said yes. They make their coffee with one of those french presses- don't know if you've seen one- and it was SO SO SO STRONG I could hardly drink it! I didn't want to be rude though, so I sat there sipping away. I like my coffee strong, too!

Next question: any special plans for the weekend? (DH and I are going to a wedding tonight!!)

Vendie
09-24-2005, 08:35 AM
I know I just answered one, but I have to answer this too, b/c I'm going to see my friend and her new baby this weekend....she's having a c-section THIS morning, so I think we're going to visit tomorrow. This is the friend that I made the bonnet (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?p=34027&highlight=bonnet#34027) for.

Next question: does your cat barge into the bathroom too?

KellyK
09-24-2005, 09:31 AM
Dont have a cat, but NOTHING is off limits or private to dogs! They would think it downright RUDE if I closed the bathroom door! And lets not even TALK about OTHER "activities" they like to watch...

What wakes you up on Saturday morning?
(I get woken up by a chihuahua licking my nose.)

Ingrid
09-24-2005, 09:42 AM
I hear that the boys are up, I know that their mom won't be up too soon since she works late shift today, so I get up. Not immediately, but within an hour or so.

What is a bad habit you have that you just can't seem to break?

dustinac
09-24-2005, 09:45 AM
its gross but bitting my nails when I'm worried or stressed...
:(

Whats your favorite thing to drink??

benniesma
09-24-2005, 11:26 AM
Dusti - biting your nails isn't gross! Picking your nose and eating the boogers is gross. Compared to that, nail biting is low on the totem pole of gross.

Any self respecting Southerner would say Sweet Tea. But since I'm just a transplant, probably Coca-Cola.

Do you have any other hobbies besides knitting? :gasp!:

jodstr2
09-24-2005, 11:28 AM
oops, I was too slow!

Vendie
09-24-2005, 11:50 AM
doing some fall cleaning (missed the spring cleaning this year) and translating the FT Felted Clogs pattern for me and my DH's clogs. ... And more knitting....

Next Question: Do you like crossword puzzles (or any other puzzles?)

Ingrid
09-24-2005, 12:00 PM
LOVE crossword puzzles!! Like jigsaw puzzles, too, and I'm pretty good at them, but won't waste the time on them anymore. People at work come to me with their crosswords for help  . I'm far from expert, but if you do enough of them, the words just pop up.

Favorite breakfast cereal? (I'm running out of questions!)

punkhippiemom
09-24-2005, 12:53 PM
I'll eat pretty much any cereal except grape-nuts.... but it has to be dry. Can't eat soggy cereal. bleccchhh.

What's planned for your next vacation??

InterNette
09-24-2005, 01:08 PM
I love cereal as long as it is soggy, lol sorry punk.

Since my friends left for poland 3 days ago and I am not there, I guess were doing a cruise again. We do cruises in between his surguries and recoveries, there close to get to and usually inexpensive and I dont have to cook or clean all week. They work great, he can nap or just sit on deck and I can go do what I want to do, plus they have health care on board.hat

Whats for dinner tonight? Were having ribs, yummm

jodstr2
09-24-2005, 01:39 PM
not sure yet. Dyl moved up to orange belt in Tae Kwon Do yesterday so I'm going to ask him where he wants to go for dinner. but we might go tomorrow night instead of tonight, since CV is working today and idk when he's coming home.

Ingrid
09-24-2005, 08:55 PM
Mine is white, but we have really, really cool tiles on the backsplashes and behind the stove and on the hood, so anything but white would be too much.

Do you make your bed everyday?

koolbreeze
09-24-2005, 09:13 PM
as you can see from the pic above~~~~~~NO!! the only time i make it is when i change the sheets and that is alway at night so its really not worth the effort!!!! plus DH doesn't sleep under the covers so if i made it up it would all be on my side at night so it REEEEAAALLy is not worth the effort!

MaryB
09-24-2005, 10:13 PM
Too many. Do I have to count? Guessing 18-20, not counting slippers or boots!

OK and I am counting 4 pairs of running shoes as 1 because they are just running shoes after all. And they are all the same brand and style.

punkhippiemom

Has to be my bed - we just bought it after we moved up here, from an Amish man who has a used furniture store in his barn - I loved shopping for it, it was almost like wandering through your grandparent's attic ( ;) )... it is a cherry (I think....I know it has a cherry stain, anyway) sleigh bed :inlove: .... and we bought a new mattress for it... I love going to bed every night!!

Do you collect anything? (Besides yarn, I mean..... )

Ingrid
09-25-2005, 06:15 PM
I always loved biology. I never did anything with it, but I think that because I explained lots of stuff to my oldest daughter as she was growing up, she ended up with her doctorate in biology/genetics. (Yes, mothers can take credit for everything! :rofling: )

Since Halloween is coming up faster than I like to think about (costumes  ack!!!), what's the creepiest or scariest thing that's happened to you, in a supernatural-ish way? (I'm going to put a link to the ghost stories thread here (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2617), so this doesn't get hijacked)

Mine is...I used to have dreams and vague memories about this strange knight - type figure that would come out of the walls of the first house we lived in (mind you, we moved out of this house when I was about 2). I thought it was just one of those weird recurring nonsense dreams, until my mom happened to mention something about when me and my brother were really little and we used to talk all the time about the knight that lived in the walls - - - Sent a chill down my back....

Ever been on a blind date? How did it go??

brendajos
09-26-2005, 04:33 PM
yes.....there was no second date.

i did have a friend try to set me up with a guy once. she said "i think you would be perfect together. He has five kids ( i was 23...did i really want 5 kids that weren't all his even? yeah that would make me think he is a good guy for raising kids that aren't his own since their mother was really bad but still!), and he kind of drinks a lot ( umm...great!), but he is really nice!"

"umm...he drinks a lot?" "well i haven't seen him drink a six pack a night or anything!"

Uuuh...yeah i think i will pass but thanks!

(yeah and it did make me question what she thought of me when she thought that THIS set up would be perfect for me...lol...especially when she knows i rarely drink anymore....oy!)

how much of your work day do you spend screwin' around not really working?

Vendie
09-26-2005, 07:05 PM
ummm, I'm at work right now ? actually, no I just got home, but when I read this earlier, I was at work. Unfortunately at my job we don't get much of a chance to goof off.

Speaking of work...are you able to :XX: or :XY: at work??

LisaD715
09-26-2005, 07:09 PM
I can knit when I take a break. 4 out of 7 of us smoke at the office, so when they take smoke breaks, I take a knitting break. I knit for about 5 minutes, here and there. I also usually use some of my lunch time to knit.

What is the knitted item you are most proud of?

Vendie
09-28-2005, 09:37 PM
The baby bonnet I gave to my friend for her new baby...I'm proud of it b/c when Katie NoNo Bear (who is now more popular on KH than I am) chewed a hole in it, I thought I would have to start over. Everyone here convinced me to try to save it and fix it and I was able to...Since doing that, I feel like I can knit anything!

What was your favorite book when you were a kid? (Mine was Many Moons)

have you ever skipped a meal just to knit?

Ingrid
09-28-2005, 10:30 PM
Oh Lord, I should weigh in at 100 pounds at this point (I don't). On the weekends, I almost always realize I'm hungry at about 3 in the afternoon, having had nothing but coffee all day. I also find that what I eat is determined by how it has to be eaten if I'm in the middle of a knitting jag. If I need to sit with a plate in front of me and cut and eat--no. Quick spoon into the mouth, yes. Greasy, no. I guess you can see this is an issue with me by the length of my post!!

Have you lost weight/quit smoking/quit biting nails or any other habit because you knit instead?

ARGH! I'm running out of questions (it's too early to think!)!

What would you do if you were told you were not allowed to knit for a month?

KellyK

ooooh, I'll take my chocolate almost any way- I like milk chocolate better than dark, and with caramel it's even better........
hot chocolate with LOTS of whipped cream
s'mores
big slice of chocolate cake with a glass of super-cold milk
yum............................................... ..........

Have you ever broken a bone or gotten stitches?

punkhippiemom
09-29-2005, 12:55 PM
I was bit by a dog when I was four or five, and had to have stitches (A LOT!!), I broke a glass in the bathtub (I was using it to rinse my hair  when I was six, I think) and sliced my knee open, had to get stitches then... and I was hit by a car when I was eight or so, and broke my collarbone. I was really disappointed, because I didn't even get a cast, just a brace that didn't even show... nothing for my friends to sign :verysad: :roflhard:

I take my chocolate any way I can get it ;)

I prefer dogs. Less attitude to deal with... but that said... we own both... one dog and one cat.

Next Question: What's your favorite dessert?

Do you find that you only want to write with a certain color inkpen? (I prefer black, medium point)

It doesn't matter the color, but I LOVE writing with gel pens with bold tips! And I'm very defensive about my pens! You can borrow one, but don't even think about walking away with it!!!

pink erasers or Magic Rub?

I actually detest using anything that requires an eraser. So, none. Although my sons did recently scratch one of their toys against the wall and erasers are the only thing I've found that works for getting those marks out. But I don't want pink marks either, so probably Magic Rub for that ;)

MaryS

I'm going to join Bek, and answer several questions.

Chocolate: any way I can get it! I  Dove dark chocolate promises. Just enough without stressing out over too many calories! And my favorite drink all winter - Hot Chocolate sometimes with a peppermint drop or piece of broken Candy Cane in it! (Or Amaretto or Frangelico if I'm feeling really decadent)

No Knitting: If I really couldn't knit (like all the fingers on both hands were broken  or something like that) I'd plan out more projects, go through all my patterns, and collect or allocate more yarn stash. I could figure out what I'm making for Whom for the next several years, then find a good knitting book and READ about knitting. :happydance:

I've also neglected cleaning house   (I'll do one big sweep through the house every other week, and just occasional picking up in between), or doing any but the most basic paperwork at home. I've no patience for junk mail and it ALL hits the circular file - except for yarn catalogues. :cheering:

Now my question: Where would you go for your ideal vacation? :??
(And LYS is NOT an acceptable answer). LOL

Happy Knitting :XX: :XX:

Italy and Germany, to tour the Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, Audi, and VW factories/museums. oh and also to partake in the cuisine!

do you ski or snowboard or do any winter sports?

Vendie
09-29-2005, 08:35 PM
um, no, snow is not my thing really. I like to watch it snow, I think it's funny when my dogs play in the snow, but other than that, I'll stay inside with some hot cocoa thank you.

Yes, as much as I hate to admit it, I am somewhat of a beer snob. It's yuengling lager for me. If I HAVE to, I'll drink something else, but it's just not as good!! ;)

Do you own an ipod? (i don't!)

jodstr2
09-29-2005, 09:23 PM
no. I want one, but right now I don't want one so badly as to spend money I could be spending on yarn. my car has the perfect place for the iPod to get cozy and nestle in. it's on my list of stuff to buy.

what do you listen to most - AM or FM radio, CDs, tapes, records, 8 tracks, reel-to-reels, iPod, mp3s, mp4s, etc.?

Silver
09-29-2005, 10:54 PM
Right now, I'm hooked on audio books on tape or CD. I love to read, but if I have to choose between reading a book or knitting, I choose knitting. Audio books lets me enjoy a book AND knit at the same time. Right now, I'm listening to Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles are next.
Outside of audio books, it would have to be good ol FM radio in the car, or satellite radio at home.

Right now, I'm listening to Stephen King's The Dark Tower series.
Silver - what book are you on? My absolute favorite series.... :cheering:
Is this your first time reading them?

First, last, middle or only child?

Vendie
09-30-2005, 07:30 AM
I'm the ONLY! DH teases about how much he loves being married to an only child b/c my parents spoil him as much as they do me (sometimes more).

But I would really hope that I don't come off like a stereotypical only child (spoiled, snotty, bossy, etc - I'm thinking of the other only-child children I grew up with)!

Ah, I'm lazy...same question.

I'm the neglected middle child! ;)

Fibergirl, I'm thinkin' I like you! Drinking hot chocolate (although DS insists I make warm chocolate, not hot!) ism y favorite thing to do in winter. I also consider myself somewhat of a beer snob. My favorite job was as a waitress in a local pub. We had over 75 beers on tap and 150 in the bottle! When new tap beers came in the manager would have us all taste so we knew how to describe them to customers. Ah, I miss that place!

OH! A question huh?

Do you have a favorite flower, and what is it? (lilacs for me, in case you were wondering!)

MaryS

Answers to a few questions:

Yes I've had more than one profession.

My first career was a Medical Technologist. I worked at Children's Hospital in Detroit, MI for nineteen years and ended up (after the first 2 years on the afternoon shift) running the chemistry lab. The lab was open 24\7 and at times I'd be there at all hours. Eventually, I traded jobs with my assistant when my kids were little because I couldn't manage two "kids" who lived 25 miles apart!

Second profession: After I'd been at the hospital about fifteen years I developed a VERY severe allergy to latex. Time to get out of the medical field, so I went back to school part-time and got a Master's degree in accounting. Now I'm a CPA, so tax season is now a blur every year. It's OK though because I don't like Michigan winters, so I just stay inside and work (and knit).

I'm the oldest of three children, with two younger brothers, now 47 and 45. And I'm probably a stereotypical first child - organized, occasionally bossy, and good at taking care of others and getting things done.

Favorite flower: Daffodils and Tulips - because spring is coming - and the tiger lilies that bloom all summer. They all look so happy! :happydance:

Same question!

I worked at a florist before I had kids- loved it!! So many beautiful flowers and so many talented people that worked there. I have several favorites- lilacs, stargazer lilies (those are the hot pink and white ones), gerbera daisies, sunflowers and one called bouvardia- it has these little clusters of pink or white flowers and it beautiful. I had it in my wedding bouquet. Okay, I guess that is more than several- I love flowers!! ;)

Yes. Variegated! :roflhard:

I usually tend to more of the warm, earthy color combinations with reds and oranges, but the other side of me really likes yellows & greens, too.

2 - long, healthy, happy lives for my husband and children (I worry a bit much about untimely death)

Next Question: What is the nicest thing someone has done for you?

About 10-12 years ago, when I worked at the florist, my husband did 2 especially nice things for me. At Valentine's day, when I came home from work at midnight, my husband had a hot bath waiting for me- and when I got out of the tub, he had warm-from-the-dryer pajamas waiting for me. All the sweeter because we lived in an apartment at the time, and so he had to go down the hallway to where the washers and dryers were and put the quarters in the dryer to heat up the jammies!!

Also, around Mother's day (which is the busiest week for florists), when I was swamped with work and horribly stressed, he bought me a beautiful gold ring and left it on my desk at work. He snuck in the back door and put it there, for no reason. This was back when we were trying to get pregnant, without success. It meant so much to me that he acknowledged that it was a difficult time for me, both professionally and personally.

If it was socially acceptable for women to be bald, would you shave your head to eliminate all the hair care? (I need to make an appointment for my hair.)

DotMom61
10-01-2005, 11:06 AM
This is a *perfect* question for me. I have struggled with my hair for many years. When I was in my 20s I had long wavy/curly hair, and I loved it. It was easy to care for, but as I got older, it didn't seem quite stylish enough. So, I went through many permutations of hairstyles before I finally arrived at the short style I have now that is virtually maintenance free as long as I have a supply of pomade available. :-)

On another note, a few years ago a friend and I were seriously considering organizing a St. Baldrick's fund raiser for the National Childhood Cancer Foundation. (She also has a son who had cancer.) Anyway, we were going to set a goal for our fundraiser, and if we met that goal, we were both going to have our heads shaved. We ended up cancelling (or at least postponing) this event because neither of our boys really wanted to see their Mommies bald. Mine would have been OK with it for a short while because he was old enough to understand that it had nothing to do w/ my health, but her son was much younger, and he was afraid that if she got her head shaved it would mean that she was really sick. So ... for now, at least, we are holding off on that. I would, however, shave my head for this cause in a heartbeat if it meant I would raise a ton of money for the NCCF. (by the way, you can find them here. (http://www.curesearch.org) ;-) )

New Question: Do you know anyone (besides me) who's lives have been affected by childhood cancer?

Not trying to bring down the mood here, but I am really curious.

KellyK

My coworker's daughter lost her battle with leukemia when she was 4 years old, about 3 years ago. :crying: My coworker DID shave her head, so they could be TWINSIES.

Same question......

LisaD715
10-01-2005, 11:51 AM
My brother died 34 years ago from Leukemia. He was 6, I was 3. I remember him, but my sister who is a year younger does not. He is the reason I do many of the things I do today. I am an organ donor (they were only able to use his eyes, so I have always taken joy in the fact that someone is looking at life through his eyes), I am a blood donor, but I prefer pheresis, (platelet donation) I can do it more often and it seems to help out a bit more. I am also on the National Marrow Registry.

What is the one thing in your life you wish you could do over?

Silver
10-01-2005, 11:59 AM
School. I wish I would have worked harder, and been an A student. Friends and popularity was fun, but not very profitable. I would have also delayed becoming a mom and gone to college. I was 5 months preggo at my highschool graduation, and have been a stay at home mom ever since. I don't regret my choices, but if I could, I would go back and rearrange somethings. Hind sight is 20/20, you know.

Did you have a first love that you've never gotten over?

InterNette
10-01-2005, 12:06 PM
Yep, we were in contact for a year or so and were suppose to meet again, know what? I chickened out and wonder all the time. For many years I was really big into visiting psychics all over the world, sorta my souvenirs I guess, quite a few gav references to him as being the one I am suppose to be with also. What over 20 years can do to a person, I am not that young gal any longer. Ahhh just thinking of him makes me smile inside.

Great question, again.

Vendie
10-01-2005, 12:38 PM
I can't say I do. The guys I fell in "love" with when I was younger were losers. I am MADLY in  with my DH, and if I ever lost him, then I'm not sure I would get over it.

Same question.

Silver
10-01-2005, 02:21 PM
Yes. I've never gotten over my first love. I still love him as much today as I did when we were dating... I was 16 years old. I dated a few guys before him, but never fell in love until I was with him. I still think about him all the time.

Of course, I've been married to him for 13 years. ;)

Same quesetion.

LisaD715
10-01-2005, 04:17 PM
I was a freshman, he was a senior, we met in high school. He was president of the French Club. He is still a very good friend. We have gone through several years of "lookingfor and finding" each other, he usually tracks me down. The last time was a little over a month after the 9/11 attack. He had been in PA and had to drive through Baltimore to get back to Florida. We had a discussion, (he is married and at the time I was still with my former SO) and I flat out told him that he was the one who got away. He told me I should have kicked his butt several times for allowing me to get away. Timing was just never right....

What is your favorite comfort food?

Vendie
10-01-2005, 04:49 PM
Too many to choose from....cheesecake, mashed potatoes, potato soup, DH's chili with some garlic toast...damn, now I'm hungry.

You have to dig a hole to China. Where do you start?

earthchick
10-01-2005, 05:20 PM
I would start in China. Maybe just dig a tiny little hole, say I'd dug a hole to China, and then get back to knitting.

Do you have an unfinished knitting project that you have not worked on in a year or more? If so, what is it? And, why have you not finished it? Do you think you ever will?

(okay, that's more than one question, but it's all on the same topic, so it counts, right?) ;)

Silver
10-01-2005, 06:15 PM
Yes. My Big Block afghan. It's my in-between-projects-project, that I started so I would have something to work on after I finish one thing and before I get the yarn for the next thing. That was back when my yarn budget was a lot more limited. But now, as soon as I finish one, I start another because I already have the stuff. So I don't really know when I'll finish it, if ever. ;)

Do you have a big purchase in the near future? Not yarn. Something like... a car... a house... a vacation.. etc.

Ingrid
10-01-2005, 06:23 PM
A car! A car! A car! No question, no doubt, no choice. My car died, permanently and beyond all hope of redemption. I'm now driving my father's car since he can't anymore. I. Am. Getting. A. New. Car.

Outside of having too much yarn, and continuing to buy more, what would you say is your worst habit?

earthchick
10-01-2005, 06:29 PM
Probably compulsively checking the internet. Seriously, I pop on way too much. Especially when I have real work to do (like right now).

Other than knitting, do you do any other crafts? Which did you learn first, and which is your favorite?

Silver
10-01-2005, 06:55 PM
Oh gosh... lets see..
graphic arts
soapmaking
cross stitch
quilting
needlepoint
spinning
crochet

I learned graphic arts first, but out of everything, knitting is my favorite. Next favorite is graphic arts, then soapmaking.

Do you cook on the grill or leave that to the man?
(I'm waiting for hubby to start the steaks! LOL)

margie

I'll light the grill, but usually let DH cook on it. Occasionally I'll finish it up, but only if he's late coming home from work.

How rude of me to answer last time without posting a new question!! My bad.

Let's see..........

have you ever gone camping? If so, where? ( we've been a bunch of times, not since we had kids though.)

LisaD715
10-01-2005, 07:48 PM
I love camping!!!! I went for the first time when I was 23 to a Circle M resprt in PA, we had a BALL!! I have been hooked ever since. We used to go to Skyline Drive in VA, and I loved Hershey's campground. I think my favorite would be Skyline Drive, we saw bear one year. My requirement is that I have to have a toilet and a shower, everything else, I can rough it!

Are you a pen and paper freak too?

(I have so many diffrently colored pens, and I love new notebooks, it is like a fresh start everytime I get one.)

DotMom61
10-02-2005, 01:12 AM
Absolutely! If I can't go to the LYS, then drop me off at a good stationery or office supply store! I used to be hooked on calendar/organizers, too, until I started keeping my calendar on the computer. But, yes, I *love* pens, pencils, crayons, markers ... it's really bad, 'cause my kids love 'em, too, and they know I have a hard time resisting them.

Let's see ... what's a good question that hasn't been asked yet. Hmm .... Oh, I know! I just watched "Karate Kid" with the kids tonight -- they loved it!! -- I had forgotten what a wonderful character Mr. Miyagi is (even if the rest of the movie is rather predictable). Anyway, the thing that has always stuck with me from this movie is the importance of balance in one's life. So ... here's the question:

Do you feel that your life is balanced, and if it isn't, what can/should you do to even things out?

Vendie
10-02-2005, 10:24 PM
I don't think my life is very balanced right now, and I'm not even sure what to do to get it there. Thankfully I don't have to work crazy hours or bring work home with me (very often anyway), but I still feel like I can never get enough time at home...I wish my family was closer too, I think that would help a bunch. I just try to make time for the things that matter the most and hope it all falls into place.

okay that was cheating but i can't argue, i love Gray's Anatomy and am watching my tape of it right now. ya know what's funny is that ABC never expected this show to do well...they figured a few episodes to tide them over to the end of last season and that was it! LOVE IT!

Vendie
10-03-2005, 07:22 AM
I really want to start designing, but I'm not there yet...I tend to get ahead of myself that way...so I guess my next knitting skill will be putting together a sweater....I am also very intrigued by steeking.

Do you think we should just get rid of the penny?

Silver
10-03-2005, 10:23 AM
I don't like eggs, so that puts a huge limit on my breakfast choices. I guess I'd have to say pancakes, or french toast. Although I rarely actually eat breakfast foods at all. I usually start my day with something like a turkey sandwich.

Take My Breath Away by Berlin (from the Top Gun soundtrack).

When I hear that song, OH MY. I saw that movie with my first boyfriend when I was 15. I associate it with the excitement of a new relationship, and with general teenage angst mixed with my first experience of my more adult longings. Nearly 20 years later, that song can stir up all those old feelings.

What a great song.

this one is hard for me, i have several i just don't remember which one is the earliest. I remember my great grandmother's funeral, telling everybody i am adopted even though i didn't know what it meant (i really am, i wasn't being random or that droll!), sitting in my high chair breaking my glass of orange juice and mom giving me a hug letting me know it was okay. i wasn't more than 3 or 4 in any of those memories.

what is your favorite Nick at Night show?

Vendie
10-04-2005, 07:34 AM
When I USED to watch Nick at Night, probably the Cosby Show...I LOVED that show when I was little, grew up on it.

To answer some of the other questions, one of my doggies sleeps with us, the other sleeps in her crate (b/c she doesn't know the difference between sleeping next to you and ON you - can anyone guess which puppy I speak of?), kitty...I don't know what she does...she goes to bed with me, but has a sort of "shift change" when DH and the dog come to bed. I hear it's pretty cute.

Earliest memory? Christmas in Colorado when I was 3 - I got a FP wee people bus, and I slept in the closet (it was big, I was little) in the room my parents stayed in.

Song...cheezy, but everytime I hear the Peter Cetera song from Karate Kid II, I think about Okinawa - that was where the movie was filmed and where I was born...

Ok, so next question....What was the first job you had and how long did you stay there? (I worked at Victoria's Secret when I was 15 for the X-mas season)

OMG....my first job was in the kitchen at Swedish Covenant hospital on the north side of Chicago when I was 16. I passed trays and worked on the food line. There were a BUNCH of high school kids that worked there...we were a DEBAUCHEROUS bunch....I kissed THREE of the guys in the elevators! :roflhard:

Well a few days ago I would have said cheese, but my DH and I finished off a bottle of Chardonney and I really liked it!! So for now, I go with WINE!!

well let's see. I use to live across the street from one of the chicks on One Life to Live. I can't remember her name but i know her when i see her (never watched her show.) Lived on the other side of the block from David Letterman. Met John Kerry several times last year (does he count?) and got a couple of his books signed. Also met Ashton Kutcher (who wasn' quite as dumb as i thought he was) and Jon Bon Jovi last year during the campaign too. OOOH and i am going to meet Barak Obama at the end of the month. I am so excited! OOH and one more. I worked for the family who sold Christopher Reeves one of his horses. From my understanding it wasn't THE horse. He was out at the farm several times before buying.

okay i think that is it.

ooooh yeah, i forgot...shortly after one of our connecticut nor'easters i was doing some christmas shopping in one of my favorite "crafty" type stores and Harvey Feirstein came in justa b*tching about the snow and asking the lady who owned the shop where her big beefy hubby was so he could come and plow his driveway. he was in the store often when i went in there. the first time i heard him come in (which was this instance) i was in the back of the store not paying attention to who was coming and going and i heard him come in.....i knew that voice immediately without even looking...lol

I am lazy and i like the question sooo...same question

I've met John Stamos. He was at a local car show years ago, I stood in line to meet him, shook his hand and he autographed a picture for me.

My uncle was a bodyguard for Rob Lowe while he was filming on location in St. Augustine, FL. My uncle was an officer with the local fire department and Rob hired local guys for security. So I met him too, that was much more of a one on one kinda thing.

And my dad grew up with the VanZants of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I didn't answer when I initially asked, so I will now :D

I met Ryan Newman (NASCAR driver, and hopefully my new avatar) last year. I love that guy.

I went to the police academy with the sister of Sean Hayes (Jack from Will and Grace). We went to the 2000 Emmy's with him (he won that year, as did the show). At the afterparty, Louis Anderson (comedian and former host of Family Feud) asked if I had any cocaine in my purse.

Hmm.... Let's see...

I spent a week at the same hotel as the group Loverboy during their heyday. I was 11 and played Ms. PacMan with them in the lounge at night. Very nice!!

I met Howard Jones (again in his heyday) after a concert.

But the scariest (and perhaps my proudest encounter) was with Grace Jones in the Atlanta airport. She was so scary and yet totally cool!!! I was 12, travelling alone and lost and she was there with this purple stovepipe hairdo and was wearing a red, hooded cape trying to help me find my gate to make my connection. She's an AMAZON but FABULOUS!

Since the 80's not much has happened, i guess.

Same question.

I grew up with Emmitt Smith, former running back for the Dallas Cowboys, as well as a few other former pro football players....Pat Moorer and Reginald Johnson (in the south, football is HUGE).

John James (from Dynasty) kissed my cheek once At Saint Anne's Round-Up, I met Tony Danza there also.

My boss' daughter is the ADORABLE little girl in The Notebook.

I shook hands with James Taylor at one of his concerts. I've spoken to his brother Hugh on the telephone. (He owns a B & B, and also makes music. I called the B & B to order his CD and they put him on the phone!)

What is the longest period of time you've gone without knitting since you began?

Silver

Seriously, maybe a weekend... and only because I was busy. Once I learned to knit, I haven't stopped. It's TOTALLY my thang!

How much do you spend on groceries per month?
I was just griping to my mom about spending another $200 today.. I swear, I must spend $600 to $800 a month. My 14 year old boy eats like a horse.

I spend roughly $500 a month for two teenage boys and me. I honestly don't know where they put it.

I had to go almost a month without knitting much when I moved. I did manage a few times during that month to do a few rows on a dishcloth. Not much knitting there at all.

Do your pets have "friends" come over? One of my Mom's dog's, Isaiah is here now visiting and having dinner with Solomon, he just decided he wanted to come hang out. I'll see if I can get a pic.....

my dogs have friends next door and they all just hang out at the fence. there's another doggie in the next neighborhood that they LOVE. Other than that, it's not really a good idea to bring dogs into the house, Emmie seems to have issues with them (she's the BOSSY one). My mom's poor dog just HATES coming over. I think he'd rather go to the kennel anyday!

Heard any good jokes lately?
