Three little boys were sitting on the front porch of one of their houses. Little Johnny asks, "What do you think is the meanest animal?" Little Billy says, "That's easy---a lion, he's the king of the jungle and he eats everything."

Little Bobby says, "Yeah, a lion is mean, but not nearly as mean as a shark...he swims around the ocean just waiting for someone to fall in so he can eat him---and in the meantime, he eats all the fish!"

Little Johnny says, "You are both wrong. The meanest animal is the crocogater."

"Crocogater!? What's that?" asks Billy.
"A crocogater has two heads---on one end is a crocodile head and on the other end is an alligater head," says Johnny.

"Wait a second," Bobby says, "if he has two heads, how does he poop?"

Johnny smiles and says, "That's why he's the meanest animal!!"

:happydance:

What is your favorite animal???

The musk ox :roflhard:

How many pair of shoes do you own (not how many you actually wear, or how many are in your closet at this moment, but how many you actually own including shoes in the basement, upstairs closet, etc etc :) )?

margie
10-05-2005, 04:34 PM
I would estimate that I own about 12 pairs of shoes. Let's see......the ratty slip on sneakers that I wear all the time, the good sneakers that I wore once upon a time when I exercised, 2 pairs of clogs, a few pairs of dressy shoes, duck shoes for winter, and I'm sure I'm missing a couple of pairs of something. I'd like to say that I have lots of beautiful shoes, but I hardly ever wear them!!

Next question: what is your favorite smell? Could be floral, could be food, could be something else............mine is either lilac or cinnamon.

LisaD715
10-05-2005, 05:59 PM
Vanilla, and cinnamon. I have a perfume that has both of those scents in it and I LOVE it!! In my house, I love Yankee MacIntosh candles, they smell so clean.

Same question.

ooooh, so many to choose from. I tend to gravitate more toward food than to florals. but I think the incense I like is more floral.

Yankee Candle scents - either Home Sweet Home or Golden Spiced Pear

personal fragrance: Must de Cartier, Escada Island Kiss, or Anne Pliska

incense: Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa (I like Satya Sai Baba the best. nag champa varies from mfr to mfr.)

I think we need to get this going again- it stalled!!

Time for a new question..................................

When you were a child, did you have a special "lovey"- stuffed animal or blankie? I did not, but my younger son has a green dog named Carlo and a white blanket that he can't do without!!

I had a "blankie". I pulled my sister's two front teeth out with it.

(Yeah... there's a story behind that one...)

Hmmm... New Question: What was your first car?

1974 Chevelle Malibu Classic that had originally been my uncle's then was my brother's. He made it into a "vroom vroom" car and i eventually got to drive it until it died....that was about ...hrmmm...200k miles and 2 high school kids later! ;)

let's see if it took me too long to answer this and someone else beats me with a question...if not...

What is your favorite snack food?

AidanM
10-07-2005, 06:14 PM
Chinese take out. And yes it is SO a snack food.

What's your dream house like? MINUS THE KNITTING/CRAFTING ROOM! We all know about that one anyway. :P

Fully-equiped log cabin backed by woods so I can watch birds & other wildlife 'til my heart's content.....with a lofted master BR suite...and jacuzzi tub in a bay window...and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace

You apparently both answered at the same time, so I'll answer both.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I like Kelly. :P

I get my water from the tap at home--it is the best!! I get bottled at work because it's baaaaad, and I wouldn't drink from the fountain, anyway.

Next person can pick from these.

Just a little interjection here: I grew up in the midwest, and I don't pronounce *any* of those words that way!!

BUT ... I'm going to practice saying them like that so I can try them out on you on the 29th, FG.

brendajos
10-08-2005, 07:05 PM
lol me neither....except in a mocking sort of way...and i have NEVER heard anybody use spayshul like they thought that was how it was pronounced!

i even refuse to pronounce Norfolk NE the way people here think is proper ("Norfork") cuz it drives me crazy!!

KellyK
10-08-2005, 07:05 PM
FG, you forgot "wudder"....you know, the stuff you drink?

I know EXACTLY where she's comin from...remember, Im half Hoosier!! :rofling:

Vendie
10-08-2005, 07:54 PM
OK, so maybe its a Hoosier thing. I had a physics teacher in high school that said spayshul and I could never tell if he was really saying spatial or special. Drove me crazy.

I caught my mom saying maysure and she flat out DENIED it - almost hit me too...I said, hey, you're the one who said it!!!

I never heard of wudder. :roflhard:

And we don't put things away, we put them up.

And we always ask where something's at. Where you at?

and DotMom you are MEEEEAAAANNN!

DotMom61
10-09-2005, 10:07 AM
I'm really thinking it must be a Hoosier thing, 'cause no one I know in Central or Northern IL has that dialect. And, quite honestly, I don't think I could pull off talking like that to irritate you, anyway!! I could never keep a straight face!

Vendie
10-09-2005, 10:28 AM
I try it every once in awhile to annoy my Canadian husband, but it irritates me too, so I can't keep it up for long...I do enjoy saying foyer (FOY-yer instead of foy-ay) to annoy him though! :roflhard:

I think the Hoosier dialect gets worse too the more south you go.

We need a new question....

Have you ever had a speeding ticket? If so how fast were you going leadfoot?

brendajos
10-09-2005, 11:14 AM
omg...yeah. I use to count my speeding tickets by the number of counties i got them in...*sigh*

however the last one i got i fought and won. Not because i wasn't speeding (though i didn't know i was, literally! I was going 42 in what i thought was a 45 mph zone. However i had apparently just crossed the magic street that turned it into a 30 mph zone and got nailed! ) The reason i got out of it was because the officer wrote that i was doing 42 in a 37 mph zone.

can you imagine if THAT was how our speed limits were set up?!

so yeah, i have had a few but i am more careful these days! not because i don't dream of being a race car driver, just cuz i don't dream of spending all my money on tickets...lol

soooo ummm....what is the worst job you have ever had?

AidanM
10-09-2005, 11:52 AM
I've never had a job yet. The worst thing I've had with jobs is that people will say they want to hire me to do something, and then they never do.

What did you feel like the first time somebody told you that they "liked" you. (winkwink)

mintdee
10-10-2005, 05:00 PM
Must not let this die!
:D
Utterly mortified because it was a guy that I had no problems being friends to but did not "like" him. I had no idea what to say  :roflhard:

What do you do for the holidays?

I drive to my mothers in Missouri. :D

Ingrid
10-10-2005, 05:31 PM
I've never gotten a speeding ticket, only was stopped once, very recently.

I haven't had a job that was really, really bad--just some days at the job.

I do pretty much everything for the holidays because "I" am "home" and the family comes to this house. I don't mind cooking for Thanksgiving, but I really, really don't like doing all of Christmas and it usually falls to me.

Anyway. . . What are you most proud of?

hedgehog
10-10-2005, 06:38 PM
What are you most proud of?

Ok, so this might sound corny (and i'm sorry if it does) but i'm most proud of my tenacity. I barely finished high school (i was a terrible truancy case!) out of sheer boredom and apathy. I think i had missed THE LIMIT of days that you could before you had to repeat the entire year due to absences. I never went because it was so boring and i hated the social aspects of it. My poor parents  (Not proud of that, really) I thought many times of quitting.. i have no idea what i would have done if i had :oo:

But i flourished at university and continued on to get a BS, MS and PhD in Biology/Molecular Biology. I'm not a quitter ('cept for smoking!) and through my studies i was able to fulfill another lifelong dream - living abroad in a few countries.

So i guess that's what i'm most proud of - not settling and continuing to dream in the face of adversity.

It's a great question so i'll keep it and ask it again... What are you the most proud of?

-hh

AidanM
10-10-2005, 07:27 PM
I am most proud of..

My self.

When I was about 12 or 13, during the summer between 6th and 7th grade, I almost ended my life. But I found that trying to die hurt a lot more than living did. After that point, I basically put my self back together and pulled myself out of depression by the bootstraps.

Sometimes I still get depressed, but the habits I formed during that time keep me out of it and not to mention my friends who are totally awesome. I'm totally self-made, from the inside out. I've learned a lot from just dealing with all my problems. Now I'm big on self-sufficiency. I can do a lot of stuff for myself that most people my age don't know how to do yet or can't do well. I'm most proud of my self.

Hedgehog's right..it's a good question. What're you most proud of?!

jodstr2
10-10-2005, 08:35 PM
I'm most proud of the care I give my stepson. to say he came here to live with us 4 years ago with baggage is the ultimate understatement. he is finally showing us the fruits of all of our labor (his hard work too).

same question!

Going to law school while I worked full time as an RN while supporting a wife and young family. Best question yet. Same one again.

LisaD715
10-10-2005, 11:24 PM
I have two to list. The first and most important things I am most proud of are my sons. If I have never done anything else right in my life, I have done my job with my boys. They are smart, respectful boys who NEVER mind helping out when needed and don't ask for anything in return. Just today they gladly went to work with me because we were short staffed (crazy busy while we file a million bankruptcy cases this week-new laws go into effect Monday-and our amazing receptionist's father passed away this weekend). They even offered to come back.

The other thing I am most proud of is myself. All of you knew I moved from MD to FL this summer, but many don't know why. I left a 17 year relationship (long story) and have been on my own for the first time in my life. I am responsible for myself and my sons, running the household, paying all the bills etc. And I proved to myself that I could do it, after years of thinking I was not capable of being on my own.

I love this question! Your turn!

margie
10-11-2005, 07:49 AM
Oh my- there are so many wonderful and inspiring stories coming out here!! I would have to say that I think the thing I am most proud of is my marriage- my husband and I went through a very very bad time about 2 years ago- something that I never thought would happen to me. At the time, I was a mess and didn't know if/how we would ever be able to fix things. We went to counseling- faithfully- some weeks we each went seperately, other times we went together- once a week for months, then it tapered off to every other, etc- we worked so HARD on our marriage!! It was a huge financial hardship- counselors aren't cheap- but it was something we felt had to be of the utmost priority, so we pinched our pennies and made it work. After going to counseling for just over a year, we decided that we were to the point of doing it on our own. Our marriage is better today than ever- and I know that if we both hadn't wanted it and worked at it, we wouldn't be where we are now.

I'll give the next person the opportunity to answer the same question if they'd like, or answer a new one: what kind of car do you drive?

jodstr2
10-11-2005, 11:20 PM
ooh! ooh! I feel bad for interrupting, since I love the stories so much! but I'll take this opportunity to talk about my car! I  my car! it's a 2004 VW Golf R32. 6 speed. 4WD. 240 hp. damn fun car. she's soon to get some real neat goodies, I think. my car is my other interest besides knitting. I spend a lot of time in car forums.

ok, back to the other question... I love reading your stories! :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

What is your favorite holiday and why?

AidanM
10-14-2005, 02:39 AM
Sounds corny, I know, but I really love Christmas. I love all the specials on TV. I watch them religiously. And then there's all the excuses for baking. I can't wait until I'm out of school and have a job and can fund my very own Family Christmas Hoo-Haa. (Can you tell I'm from the sticks? lol) I would love to decorate my home in garlands and old-fashioned Christmas stuff. Mm, I love it.

Nirvana - Pennyroyal Tea
Indigo Girls - History Of Us
Bangles - Eternal Flame

The last time I put together a compilation of music I was still using cassette tapes. And I have no clue what was on it anymore.

If I were to do that today... it would have a little bit of each: jazz, rock, and country. Plus maybe throw in a contemporary christian song or two and a classical piece and most of it would be live performances.

Have you ever won a big prize? (i.e. won a raffle for a big screen TV, a car, been on a game show and won the showcase?)

Have you ever won a big prize? (i.e. won a raffle for a big screen TV, a car, been on a game show and won the showcase?)

A friend's father was on tThe Price Is Right a long long time ago, and won a bunch of stuff. The thing I remember the most is this little tiny replica of a couch, that was kid-sized- he donated it to the local church nursery school.

The most I've ever won was $100 from a radio station when I was 19, and a Hersheys chocolate cake contest a couple of years ago. If you win on the local level, you are eligible to enter in the state Farm show. I came in the top 10 in the state.

I just remembered that another friend's mom won 50K on a scratch-off lottery ticket in Maryland.

What would be your perfect meal? Start with appetizer, and go all the way to dessert!!

Ellen Edwards
10-14-2005, 05:52 PM
Oh--the perfect meal for is is all the way, baby--from the appetizer through the dessert!!

(And, by the way, I loved the "most proud of" stories so much.....that) I'm most proud of the fact that although I was merely 17 and my husband 19 when we married with a baby girl on the way, we've stayed together in and stayed in love for 39 years this past June. We've endured many things, including losing that little girl seven years ago--she was 31 and died in her sleep of heart failure. Her 7 year-old son found her and was with her for 2 hours before his dad stopped by just to see them for a moment. That little boy is 14 now, and will never forget that day, and I pray one day, he'll be able to put it out of his head and will only remember the fun his mom was and the love she gave him.

I thought I would die , too, but I didn't. My husband and son gave me their strong shoulders to lean on, and I gave them my tears and my faith in God. I still miss her every day of my life--she was my daughter/best friend/twin!!

Through thick and thin, sickness and health, the death of a child, and so many other things , my high school sweetheart/husband and I never stopped loving each other.
Next question: what was your first best friend's name??

InterNette
10-14-2005, 06:07 PM
Wow Trudy that was a proufound touching story. It is heartwarming to know there are people who still love one another and who know what committment is all about. I say three cheers to you and your hubby, isnt that a true testiment and example to set for your family.
I am sorry about your daughters death and your grandsons exposure at such a young age. I dont know what that feels like since I have no children. I can only imagine the pain and missing piece it must have left.

I have several, One names Mark Davidson from Tacoma, Wa, i called a few months ago to talk to him since I hadnt recieved any mail in a while and found out by a stranger on the other end of the phone he died. The person didnt know when or how just that he died. Mark's partner Cary wasnt home to tell me anything he was having Chemotherapy at the time. So I was struck two blows, I havent been able to reach Cary again and I am still stunned and unsure what had happened. 25 year friendship and I lost him somehow and dont know any details.

How old would you want to live to be?

Vendie

AidanM

I cannot die with unfinished projects, therefore I will live forever! :rofling:

Did you ever imagine you'd end up where you are now in life?

jodstr2
10-14-2005, 08:48 PM
no. I thought I'd be a teacher, living in my 2000 sq ft 4 BR/3 BA house in San Diego, married w/ 3 kids by now.

argh, hard to think of meaningful questions like this. all of these are so good! all I can come up with right now is "Coke or Pepsi?"!

ok - here's one:
do you consider yourself "grown up"?

DotMom61
10-15-2005, 02:11 AM
do you consider yourself "grown up"?

Only when I have to be.

And I have to answer Aidan's question: When I was about 20 I told my best friend that I would never get married and never have children. I am now a 44-year-old, stay-at-home mom of 2 children, and I homeschool them!

Now all that is surprising enough, but the thing that I have the hardest time believing & understanding is that I am parenting a 2-time cancer survivor/amputee. I would never in a million years have seen myself in this situation. And, I guess to add to the "What are you proud of?" theme: I'd have to say that I'm very proud of our entire family and how we've weathered this major trial in our lives. My husband and I have grown in our faith through this. Our DS, who has had every opportunity and justification to feel sorry for himself, has been a beacon of inspiration , and DD -- at the tender age of 7 -- has become a staunch supporter of DS and a wonderful and loving companion to all of us. And both children are hands-down experts at finding the silver lining in the rain cloud.

So, I guess I just got caught up on all of the recent "heavy" questions here, huh?

New Question: If you suddenly had as much money as Bill Gates & Oprah Winfrey put together, what would you change about your life? Or would you? In what way would you share your wealth?

Vendie
10-15-2005, 08:38 AM
I would sell my house and move closer to family. I would probably set up a foundation for grants to support not-for-profit groups. I would quit my job, but volunteer somewhere. I don't know how much I would spend on myself, but I would clear out my debts and get rid of *most* of my credit cards. I would probably set up a scholarship program of some sort. I would definitely give money to animal shelters and buy supplies for them and animal adoption groups.

I would open a yarn store!!! That would probably be as selfish as I get with it - but really it's not *that* selfish b/c yarn is good for people and makes them happy, and that would make me happy.

same question!

DotMom61
10-15-2005, 09:59 AM
I like the yarn store idea, and you could definitely work some charitable events into something like that -- knit-ins to make blankets for the homeless, caps for newborns, sweaters for Guideposts, etc, etc, etc. What a neat idea, FG!!

Carry on ... just wanted to comment

KellyK
10-15-2005, 10:57 AM
OMG OMG!!!! DH & I JUST Talked about this not too long ago....here's what I posted about it in my blog....

DH & I went out for some lunch & had the most WONDERFUL "if we won the lotto" discussion! Since we wouldnt have to worry about overhead and "making it" during the first year, we would open a yarn & bird store! "The Knitting Nest"! HOW AWESOME IS THAT NAME???
:cheering:

We would hire a trusted someone to manage the store, that way we could also travel as much as we wanted. The store would have a serious social service aspect....internship programs for local HS & college students (those working toward degrees in education, habitat management, environmental sciences, fashion design, art, etc). Partnerships with local nonprofits to provide lecture series on things like gardening to attract wildlife, birdwatching, etc., with a portion of our proceeds for that month supporting the lector's organization. On-site Education & social programs for local school groups, retirement communities, womens' shelters, hospice programs, etc. LOTS of knitting clubs & events! I would DEFINITELY want my employees to be able to bring their well-behaved dogs to work! (No low yarn shelves!) And, their children, too, whenever necessary. FAMILY atmosphere is a MUST. I would ask my employees to volunteer a couple hours a month to teach knitting or birding in schools, retirement communities, etc. Before long, I could be my OWN nonprofit organization! :happydance:

*sigh* :inlove:

SAME QUESTION!! :cheering:

feministmama
10-15-2005, 11:32 AM
Ya know, I often think about the "if I had a million dollars" dream and I dream of starting a women's educational resource center. we'd have counseling for domestic violence, coming out, post-partum depression, etc. and classes for women to learn computers so they can get a job or information on how to get a divorce or get inot Higher Ed or run for office or whatever it is that women need help with. Of course we'd have a knitting group.

But then I think about it. Would I REALLY do that? How would I do that? And if I could do that, why don't I just do it now? I mean if we're all committed folks to these kinds of social jsutice issues when we have this million dollar dream why don't we just do it? Why are we waiting for a million dollars?

That's a good question, Femi. I guess it all boils down to what kind of a risk taker you are. I do know a woman in town who sank everything she had into a homeless shelter, and it offers many of the types of programs you mentioned. She is one of those people that can wrap her arms around something like that, but you don't run across people like her every day.

I hope you *do* get a chance to fulfill that dream of yours; it sounds quite honorable.

My best childhood memory...I don't think I have one. My childhood wasn't terribly happy. My happiest memories are of Christmases, no specific one though.

Who do you trust more than anybody or anything in the universe?
I trust myself.

Jeremy
10-16-2005, 11:59 PM
I trust myself,my wife, my mother, my brother and I'm sure others that I'm not even thinking about. I think trust is a different thing than ifallibility. Even though I trust them they may have their failings and let me down. In my mind this does not equate to being untrustworthy.

New question: Have you ever had a conversation with a famous person?

LisaD715
10-17-2005, 11:35 PM
I suppose it depends on your definintion of famous. I grew up with a former Cowboy (football) and we had many conversations. I work for two local celebrities (they do commercials and have a blab show), but as far as having a converation with a president, or a famous actor, no. However if I could have a conversation with any celebrity, dead or alive...I would love to have a VERY honest conversation with Marylin Monroe. She always seemed like a troubled soul to me and I want to
know why.

Who would you want to have a conversation with and why?

Who would you want to have a conversation with and why?

Of I could have a conversation with anybody, dead or alive, I think I would want to talk to my father-in-law. He died 6 mos before I met my husband. I have heard so much about him over the years, and he sounds like he was such a wonderful person. I know a lot of who my husband is comes from his father- and I'd like to talk to him, just to get to know him.

Do you have a favorite childhood book? I really liked the Narnia series.

MaryB
10-18-2005, 10:02 AM
I'll have to answer this from my grown children's point of view----anything by Shel Silverstein. Each of my children have given "Light in the Attic" or "Where the Sidewalk Ends" to their friends as baby gifts. My daughter gives a SS book to each baby her friends have. Her theory is that everyone should have their own copy of a good book to cherish, not just one per family. (Maybe she felt she had to share too much with her brothers and sister!?)

What makes you laugh out loud?

What's the best kind of weather for knitting?

Any weather! cold weather for big stuff like sweaters, scarves, afghans. warm weather for socks, dish cloths and hats.

Do you like to knit somewhere alone where its quiet where you can meditate, think or listen to music or a CD book or somewhere with other people around like with hubby watching football or during another episode of SpongeBob with the kids?

I like to knit or crochet in class. It helps me pay attention and keeps me from getting bored.

Did you ever have a great artistic dream, like becoming a famous dancer or writing the next Great American Novel or painting the next Mona Lisa, when you were younger?

Yay! I missed this thread....

I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a kid. Too many Perry Mason books scavenged from my grandmother's attic....

I'm still working on my Mona Lisa and Great American Novel ;) :roflhard:

I prefer gift bags...because they are reusable, and better for the planet.

I know I must have lived in an earlier time, probably in the eighteenth century, or Victorian times. So, YES, I do believe. :)

If faced with the decision, which would you choose?

Never eating cheese again
or
Never eating chocolate again

(only really works if you're a fan of good cheese and fine chocolate - like me... I can't choose)

Ingrid
01-04-2006, 08:49 PM
I think I'd give up chocolate. You can do a lot with cheese, and it's good for you for the most part. There are candies besides chocolate. I can't imagine living without the occasional pizza.

Now a question. We'll stick with food since I'm hungry. What is the one food/drink you don't think you could ever manage without--bread, meat, coffee, etc.

Umm... boy it depends on the time of day! I do love my bread products but I think it would be vegetables!

Question: What is your favorite vegetable?

Question: What is your favorite vegetable?

I love veggies- some of my favorites are potatoes- there are so many yummy ways to eat them!! I also love green beans and raw carrots. We have a rather large garden in the summer- there's nothing better than picking your own vegetables.

I think I asked this question once before, but I'll ask again while we're on the food topic: Describe your perfect meal, starting with appetizer, and going all the way to dessert!

Ellen Edwards
01-04-2006, 11:31 PM
OK--I'll bite.....FIRST OF ALL--I'd like it cooked and served to me and the dishes cleaned up while I knit!!!

I love shrimp, so I'd have Shrimp cocktail, followed by Biyou Shrimp Pasta (O'Charley's has a really good recipe for this) with a spinach salad dressed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and a side of sweet potato French fries...then Sky High Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert (NOT THAT icebox lemon pie junk that somewhere like Cracker Barrell has!!)homemade with a mountain of meringue with the little "sugar beads" like my mother -in-law used to make. I'd take it all swilled down with SWEETENED iced tea!

Did you play more by yourself as a child, or did you have to have umpteen friends to play with??

aprildavis99
01-05-2006, 01:03 AM
We lived out in the Boonies so I was a loner...pretty much still am. I had my sisters and we had lots of fun together, but I often spent time alone reading or doing paint by numbers or some such hobby. :D (unfortunately I didn't learn to knit until last year :( )

Do you like to experiment with new authors when picking books to read or do you stick to a treasured few?

Do you like to experiment with new authors when picking books to read or do you stick to a treasured few?

It depends. I have my 'fave series' authors, and I'll read other things they've written. But if someone absolutely raves about a book, and the story is something I'd be into, then I'll read it, and probably get into other things they've written.

Would you knit something you thought was truly hideous if the person it was for thought it was stunning?

punkhippiemom

I'll grab both of those... one thing I want ot do before I die is to travel somewhere I never thought I'd go. Doesn't matter where.
And yes, I would knit something hideous (or just boring) if it was requested.... but only by someone I love very much ;)

What do you like the most about where you live? The least?

01-05-2006, 12:55 PM
The thing I like the most about where I live is that I am so very close to the ocean and the mountains so getting a 'change of scene' is really easy. The one thing I don't like about where I live is the poor public transportation system. I would love to be able to get around without having to drive everywhere!

What fears have you held onto since childhood?

I'm terrified of heights, but I've been SLOWLY trying to overcome it for about 34 years...

And now, Bonnie's question...
Do you garden? If so, what's your favorite thing to grow?

I do garden, and I love to grow just about anything. Veggies and flowers are both lots of fun. My favorite flower is iris, and my favorite veggie to grow is, of course, the tomato.

The most difficult thing that I have ever had to do is forgive. I don't do it often, and I don't say "I fogive you" unless I've come to the point where I can forgive and forget and not bring up the transgression again. That's a hard point to get to.

None... they all die as soon as I bring them in my house... I had a beautiful rhododendron bush next to my house when I moved in... it bloomed once and then croaked. I am why people invented fake plants.

lol well i was sitting on my sofa looking through the non-credit course paper at the community college. i was under my gramma's afghan and wearing a pair of knit socks cuz it was freeeeeeeeeeeezing out. i came to the page where they were offering knitting classes and the bug hit me for about the 348th time but the classes are rarely at a time that works for me. so i started checking to see if there were places that offer classes around and there were so i signed up. My plan was that i was gonna knit all sortsa funky socks and lots and lots of afghans.

i have yet to manage to complete an afghan (though i have one that is coming along fairly well!)

and i have lost most interest in doing socks cuz they aren't that portable for me.

but i haven't lost the want for knitting yet! :)

What was the most special gift that you have ever received?

Darhain
01-17-2006, 01:55 PM
DH gave me a super spa relax/restore/rejuevenate (his title ) package for Christmas the year DS was born. A day at a local "spa" -- we lived in Italy, and it was a lake that had been built over a hot mineral spring nearby, and you could eat healthy meals there in a gorgeous tent by the lake, and you could have a facial in another pavillion by the lake that was strewn with huge pillows and silks and such. And then, the next day, a maincure, a pedicure, a massage, a consultation with a ritzy stylist followed by a haircut and color, and a session with a makeup artist. It was pure B-L-I-S-S!!!!!

Plus, he arranged for one of my best friends to go with me. We brought DS -- he was so little, was nursing and wouldn't take a bottle, so it was pretty much mandatory, and I didn't want to be awy from him for that long, anyway -- and she helped me with him, made me laugh, brought me cups of tea, treats, etc. It was the most wonderful experience!

WynnieG

Life changing or milestonewise?

For life-changing I'd have to say my knee injuries. I would not be who I am if I had two healthy knee joints. In some ways this is a good thing; it forced me to develop other talents (like my art), being more limited in my choice of physical activitites. In some ways this was not a good thing; I want to be more active than my body will allow. I love extreme sports, but if I tried them my orthopedic surgeon would probably hang me from a tree.

Milestonewise, I'd have to say getting married last autumn. I didn't think it would change as many relationships as it did. My immediate family treats me differently (a definite improvement). We treat each other differently - it's a subtle thing, but it's there. I liken it to a sapling that's been transplanted into its permanent place in one's garden. The roots were there, but now they have the security of place to grow deep.
