Since we have this new forum, I thought I would post my progress on my first self-designed sweater.
I still haven't found an acceptable name for it :?? , so untill I find one it's name will be CC-Sweater(CC for cozy and cabled).
It's a basic sweater with a cable running up on the front and similare cables on the sleeves. There will be minimal(aka none) shaping, because it's a stay-at-home-sweater(sahs  ).
Anyway, I completed the front up to the armholes, but I'm not sure how much to decrease for them. I have calculated the shaping according to a passage on "Sweater design in plain english", but I think that's too much decreasing. I have stopped knitting after decreasing 11 sts on each size and will now begin knitting the back.
It's too dark to make a pic now, but for those who haven't already seen it here's an older progress pic.

What's that yarn??

Thanks for reminding me! Totally forgot to tell you.
It was an Ebay(evil  ) purchase. On the Label it sais:
"Blarney Woollen Mills"
Knits to Traditional Aran Type Patterns
It's 100% wool and made in Ireland, no gauge or needle size given. I googled a bit and found a store in Ireland where they sell "tourist" stuff and of course also Aran sweaters. They don't list yarn in that shop though.

Yeah for boring tv programm! Honestly, "Gangs of New York" is probably the worst movie I saw this year...even worse than that bollywood thing
But it helped me to knit most of the back as you can see in the pic!
The other pic is a scan of my projects plan. Yep, my drawing abilities are poor, but who cares ;)

Yeah, finished the body and sewed the seams :cheering:
It does fit greate, if one can speak about "fitting" when you want it to be oversized
Eventhough I don't quite get how to design the sleeve cap, I began knitting the sleeves. I'm going to figure it out when I'm at that point.

P.S.: Please note that technically speaking my head is on the pic :roflhard:

Looking FABULOUS Javede!!! Way to go! :inlove:

BTW, I find designing my own sleeve caps to be daunting, too.
If anyone has any brilliant formula for creating sleeve caps to fit their opening, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks for the compliments !

Unfortunately the sleeves are on hold at the moment. I couldn't concentrate much last week because of a cold :(
I really should have known better, but I started the sleeves anyway thinking no freaking cold would stop me knit...
bad idea! After having knitted 1/3 of sleeve number one I realized there was something wrong with it, but I couldn't point my finger at it :??
Went to bed instead and the next morning I noticed what was wrong. I forgot the cable that should have been on the sleeve!
I'm feeling a bit better now, but have to do a bunch of homework first.

It's finally finished! After the last post I didn't touched the sweater again untill two weeks ago. Since my wrists(+shoulders) hurted a bit back then, I didn't unraveled the sleeve completely and it stayed plain. There was just no way to knit cables...(probably shouldn't have knitted at all  )

It took me half an hour to calculate for the sleeve caps(btw. used this (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter05/FEATwin05TBP.html) article) just to realize I worked with the wrong number of stitches from the beginning
I didn't recalculated it all, instead I just tweaked it a bit.

I really like the sweater, it's warm and smells a bit of sheep when it's wet. I wear it at home and don't have to heat my room!
But if I ever design a sweater again and actually want to wear it outside, I would change the armhole completely, making it deeper. I don't think you can see that on the pics, but the arm-body join does look weird, because of it's position.
