I finished knitting this scarf for my mother, but she says that it is not W-I-D-E enough & that she wants me to double the dayflower pattern per row, but i cannot seem to figure it out. Has anyone attempted to do this? I'm trying to have the repeat pattern without the extra rows of knit, knit, knit... etc., & instead have a hole (YO or whatever) in between the pattern repeat w/ the same border as the original pattern.

Here's an example of what i would want it to look like. The original pix is from craftster.org, which i altered.

Here also is the original pattern.

I've tried different combos of this pattern by repeating w/out using the last YO in the row (& stitches following it) and cont. w/ the 1st YO of the row all the way to the end of the row, but this doesn't work b/c stitches don't add up. I can't believe how complicated this has become for me.

That's absolutely beautiful! I have that scarf on my long project list, too! Gosh, I don't know, I'm not proficient enough with lace to be of any assistance.....someone around here will know, I'm sure ;)
It certainly is pretty in your revision...I know that there has to be a way....

oona, were you able to figure this out yet? I'm planning on doing this pattern too. Since the chart doesn't incorporate the border stitches, can't you just repeat the chart twice? I may totally be missing something here, but with my limited knowledge of charts it seems like that might work. It might not be exactly what you have pictured though. Not sure if that's any help.

The pattern says it's a 17+2 repeat -- so you can cast on any multiple of 17 stitches plus two, and simply repeat the chart.

ETA: I started to knit this and realized that when repeating, you need to make one modification -- you know how the pattern starts and ends with 2 knit stitches (on the RS)...between repeats, omit two of those -- i.e. work the pattern to the end, then don't knit the first two stitches when you repeat. Does that make sense??

Hello everyone, thanks for the replies... such kindred spirits here.

Thanks Rebecca, like you, i'm just a beginner with lace (as well as knitting). You're right, experienced lace knitters came to the rescue.

MER & Julie, thanks to both of you too.

Julie, what you suggested about the 2 knit sts were definitely on the mark! :happydance:

Here's what a few pattern repeats look like for the Doubled Dayflower Lace Version..

Thanks Rebecca, like you, i'm just a beginner with lace (as well as knitting). You're right, experienced lace knitters came to the rescue. The end result wasn't exactly what i was looking for, but the curvy line through the middle grew on me & i'm liking it very much.

amp926, yeah, i considered that pattern too, but was still looking for a wide lace scarf for my mother. After Branching Out, Liesel will be my next lace scarf project.

MER & Julie, thanks to both of you too.
