View Full Version : FO: Cabled, zipped jacket from Schoeller Stahl Winter 03/04
Hooray, it is finally done! This is my sister's Christmas present. It is the cabled, zipped jacket from Schoeller Stahl Winter 2003/2004 made with 11 balls of Schoeller Stahl Merino Stretch. It is too big on me, but I think it will fit her ok. I haven't put the zipper in yet, but I'm still calling it done! :D

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! :D Ingrid, I'm going to see if I can get my MIL to help me put the zipper in--I'll see her before I see my sister in Dec. Otherwise I'm sure I'd mess it up!

Wish I had a sister who would put so much effort and time into knitting me something as beautifull as this! (ok, maybe a brother who gifts you with sock yarn is alright too ;) )

Mer that is a gorgeous sweater. I really like the pattern. I wouldn't want to put the zipper in either. Also you are so pretty. I just love your haircut.
It's gorgeous! You sister is sooooooo lucky!
Not to scare you...but if you can get help on the zipper, do it! It took me hours to get the one on Jim's sweater right. I was doing it on the machine...I probably should've hand sewn it in from the beginning. I had to rip it out so many times it's a miracle I didn't ruin the sweater. Maybe you can put up a seperate post in the how to forum and get some tips from experienced "zipper putter inners" :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: I know I'd like some tips for my next attempt :)
Thanks! I will definitely try to get help with the zipper. My DH said his mother would love to use her new sewing machine, but I'm thinking the sweater might be too thick for a machine. So did you end up doing it by hand, kemp?

I put my cardigan zipper in by hand -- my mom lent me a finishing book hat I can't put my hands on at the moment, but it had fabulous instructions. It's done in three steps -- basting with thread, then stitching with the knitting yarn, then backstitching where the initial basting was done. Simple but tedious. I haven't done the backstitching yet  but my zipper hasn't fallen off... :happydance:

Awww, thanks. Julie, guess I'll have to do that. I have no patience for sewing though, for some reason.
