I'm looking to start my knitting library and have found some books that I am interested in ordering online. However I do not have anywhere that I can go to look at them right now so I was wondering if anyone has seen these books and could tell me what if any differences they may have. It appears to me that they are all very similar and that two of them may actually be identical but have different titles and ISBN numbers.

These two seem identical on the inside... does anyone know if they are or not?
Teach Yourself Visually Knitting and Crocheting
August 2004
ISBN: 0764569147
Maran Illustrated Knitting and Crocheting
March 2005
ISBN: 1592008623 :??

Does anyone know how much the Knitting one and the Knitting AND Crocheting one over lap? Perhaps getting the one just on Knitting and then the one just on Crocheting would cover the most?

Teach Yourself VISUALLY Knitting
Dec 2005

Teach Yourself VISUALLY Crocheting
Jan 2006

I'm also looking for complete book on stitches also written for the visual learner.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen any of the books you mentioned, but Amy has lots of videos on this site that are perfect for teaching a visual learner. They can be found by clicking the "Getting Started," "Basic Techniques," and "Advanced Techniques" tabs up above. They are fabulous, and I can honestly say that I would not be knitting the things I'm knitting now if it weren't for Amy's videos. They're very clear, and best of all, you can rewind :-)

Oh, yes, and there are several good "stitch dictionaries" ... Here are a couple I've found helpful:

365 Knitting Stitches a Year Perpetual Calendar (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1564774325/ref=wl_it_dp/104-1256138-0859964?%5Fencoding=UTF8&colid=1MV8VC8AWEXNR&coliid=I10Q38IH5XQI2M&v=glance&n=283155)
A Treasury of Knitting Patterns (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0942018168/qid=1137509540/sr=1-18/ref=sr_1_18/104-1256138-0859964?s=books&v=glance&n=283155) -- I dont' have this one, but I've seen it several times, and it has a wealth of stitch patterns.

Oh, yes, and an all-around good reference is The Knitter's Bible (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0715317997/qid=1137509887/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-1256138-0859964?s=books&v=glance&n=283155). Again, I don't own this one, but it's on my wish list. ;-)

Have fun!

Thank you Julie,

Yes, Amy's videos are a great help! Before I found this site all I knew how to do was the knit stitch. The videos helped me get the confidence I needed to continue and now I'm starting to follow patterns and make a few of my own. :)

Thanks again!

Excellent!!! You'll have to post some pictures for us!! Have you visited the Blog Threads (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/viewforum.php?f=5) topic yet? You can start your own thread to talk about what you're knitting and show pictures, etc.

Did you notice DotMom that the hardcover version of The Knitter's Bible can be had for a whopping 97 cents used? I think shipping is like 3.50 or so, but still.... I ordered it last week for 69 cents!
