WOW! Patience, grasshopper. I think 1200 yards of moss stitch followed by all that seeming would have driven me completely 'round the bend!

Well, the bag came out, except for the front pocket. the edging is all riff raffy. it looks almost uneven on the one side. What can i do to fix this? i cant pull the pocket off right? and i dont think i can felt the bag again, or else it would start to lose its shape.

i thought about knitting and felting a whole new outside pocket, bigger and hand sewing it so she would have an interior and exterior pocket. if i felt it before i sew it, it should alleviate the problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

ok, so this is what it looks like felted... the side pockets and seams came out beautifully, the front pocket, well you will see.... i still think i am going to knit a bigger pocket, felt it and hand sew it. im also going to to the same for small rectangles to cover the strap connection. maybe offset it but doing a cross stitch in the taupe... what do you guys think?

The rest of the bag looks so good, I agree that you want to do something with the pocket. Maybe you could try putting a cross stitch along the edge of the present pocket? If it doesn't help, you could just take it out and make another.

Otherwise, it looks wonderful!!

can i actually remove the pocket? it is a seperate piece, but it was all felted together... i would remove it if i could, maybe i should let well enough alone and just add the second pocket to give an internal and external pocket. ugh, i hate when something doesnt work out. hehe.... ah the pangs of being a control freak! :)

I think Ingrid meant to use a tapestry needle and decorative yarn to cross stitch around the edges of the pocket, and that if you didn't like the result, you could pick out those stitches.

If that's not what she meant, then please credit ME with the suggestion! :D

oh your right, she did suggest that. it wouldne work on the left side, for some reason the pink pocket is pulled further to the left and looks uneven. :( i think i will play on the cross stitch idea but apllying the new pocket with cross stitch and also to the rectangle blockers.

 yea! more moss stitch! hehe!! :roflhard:

Yes, that's what I meant, but if you feel the pocket is uneven, then make another one. You could cheat and do stockinette, though. ;)

That's beautiful! That'll be one lucky momma who receives such a gorgeous diaper bag.

I like the idea of a second pocket, so that you'll have one bigger one and the one that's on now will be the smaller pocket.

You can't have too many pockets on a diaper bag.

I think it looks great! What a neat idea!!! And the colors are nice too for a diaper bag... either boy or girl.

NICEWORK!
I'll be watching for the updated pictures.
It's nice that the texture of the moss stitch showed after felting.

I too hate doing more than borders in moss or seed stitch.

so here is the finished product. i added additional pieces. i made a new outside pocket and small tabs, i then sewed them on with unfelted yarn to give it a stitched look. i think it looks good. next time, i will not felt it after sewing it together. next time ill felt each piece seperately and then sew it together.

sew, (hehe, pun intended!) here it is!

I was going to recommend sewing some ribbon to the edges of the pockets, but I really like your stitching. It looks cool!

You're stitches looks great!! It gives it such great detail. One of your pictures almost makes it look like corduroy! I love the colors on it too!! Great job with the pocket over the pocket!

Just curious, but if you were to do it again (knowing what you know now LOL!) would you bother with the moss stitch? It's so hard to tell in the pictures whether it felted that much differently from stockinette or garter. Or did it just help to make it thicker?

Meg! You're an inspiration! I am making the same bag (that Knitting for Baby book has some beautiful things in it.) I've finished the front piece, the base, and all three pockets, and I still have a ways to go. All that seed stitch is indeed getting tedious! Seeing your finished product makes me so excited to finish mine - it looks beautiful. I love your colors, too! Are you going to put a "bottom" in it, as the book suggests? I'm not sure if I will - it's a little intimidating.

I tend to agree with knitncook. I think the moss stitch was just a mean trick by the designer. I think that garter stitch or stockinette would have felted the same.
