View Full Version : Mini Circulars - What's the Good Word?

Is anyone currently using mini circular needles?
I have seen a few online that are 8 1/2" and 11" and I hear they are not so easy to come by.
Can anyone weigh in on these and give me some tips as to where to find them? If you're using them, or have used them - what did you think compared to dpns?
I'm plannig a summer of sweaters in the round for fall/winter gifts and I'd like 2 or 3 sizes of these (maybe US size 4, 6 and 8s) to do sleeves.
I appreciate all the support and help in this forum!

I bought some 8" ones from Halcyon (http://www.halcyonyarn.com/knitandcrochet/knitneedles.html) (scroll to the bottom of the page). They knit surprisingly well--very easy and easy on the hands. They're made by Clover.
The only thing I don't like about them is that they are plastic, but since dpns are killing my hands, I just have to get over myself :)
There are limited sizes on these: 4, 6, 8, and 10. But adjusting tension to compensate shouldn't be a problem.

I also have the 8" circulars from Halcyon. I used them for teeny legwarmers for my one year old. I did not find them hard/akward to use. It may depend on the size of your hands whether you like them or not. I have fairly thin fingers.
I used a 12" Addi Turbo on sweater sleeves and it also worked out well.
Binding off with the small sizes is a pain though (but you can just switch needles at that point)

I think you were the one who recommended Halcyon's wee circs to me, Candice--thanks!

As much as I try to stitch loosely on my mini-circs, I still end up with a smaller gauge than if I used dpns. This was bad for the hat I knitted, but it's not an issue for my tube scarf.
