Happy Pi Day...today is March 14th, 3/14 expressed numerically. Anyone remember 3.14 blah blah blah from math class?

So what's that got to do with yarn? Well, I saw on Knitty Gritty once that when you're coming to the end of a skein and want to know if there's enough to do another row, spread the remaining yarn across the work and if it goes back and forth a little more than three times, you should have enough left to finish the row. Has to do with the fact that knitting needles are round and pi = 3.14. :?? Sorry I can't explain much more than that.

I find that pi relates to my yarn purchases as well. If I buy yarn online, I generally end up with about 3 times more than I intended to buy (have to justify the shipping charge, after all). If I buy yarn in a store, I also end up with about 3 times more than I intended to buy (can't resist something lovely, who can?).

So I'm convinced that this is Pi theory at work and who am I to challenge the math powers that be??? :rofling:

Blueberry, pumpkin or coconut cream for me, thank you!

Love your discussing about 3/14 pi, though!! :rofling: I always wondered why my stash appears to multiply on its own!

Mmmmmm, pie :inlove:

I love how knitting can improve your math skills!! I'm just learning about the Fibonacci sequence for striping:

If only I had knitted while I was in school, my math grades would be way better!

Cool link! I thought that maybe Fibonacci was some new Italian designer!!
