I learned to knit English, and recently decided to learn Continental. I feel fairly proficient at it now, so I thought I'd see if I'd actually be saving any time. For grins, I threw in combined knitting as well, since I can do that, too.

Test swatch, 40 stitches in Cream and Sugar on clingly bamboo needles. (My turbos were otherwise engaged)

Stockinette: Statistically insignificant difference. Gauge in continental is slightly looser.

2x2 ribbing: Continental is 16% faster than English. Combined was only 1% faster than regular Continental.

Seed stitch: Holy cow! Continental was 50% faster than English! Combined, however, was only 5% faster than English.. probably because I had to purl through the back which feels unnatural.

Wow. This took a lot of...wow. My gauge in continental is looser, too.

Remind me not to challenge you to a "who has more free time" contest. :roflhard:

I find that my gauge is the same with both...I am thinking about learning combined...Annie Modesitt flies with her combo needles :D
