This sweater (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall02/PATThaiku.html) was pretty easy. The hardest part was the damn seaming!! I had a hard time with it and don't like the way it came out, but if you don't look at that it's pretty cute. I added a single crochet border at neck and hem..it just didn't look finished to me otherwise. I also made a few other adjustments..the pattern is a little narrower and the pattern on the sleeves is around the lower edge of the sleever rather than up the outside. It didn't look right to me so I changed it.

I used Bernat Softee Baby in pink marl it's so soft and plush!
BTW...this shot does NOT show how bad the seaming really is.

LOVE IT!! :cheering: I've always like the look of that pattern.

That's the same yarn and colour that I used recently for the lace baby cardigan I made. I really liked working with it and it does come out really soft.

Jan it looks great - even if you did leave the "bad" parts out of the picture. Wonderful job!

Very cute! I think it looks great! I was always put off by this pattern, I think because of the buttons used on the model picture, but with your little buttons it changes the whole look and I love it! I just could not picture how it would look with other buttons. Great job!!!

I was intrigued by the name of the pattern...my son wrote a Haiku poem in the 5th grade that I have framed and sitting on my bookcase because it makes me chuckle everytime I see it. Here it is:

Haiku

Very hard to do
It's the toughest poem, it's true
I hate you Haiku

Jan, wow. This is the first Haiku I've seen other then the one on Knitty. Something about that one turns me off. I'm not sure what you did but I love it! And seaming garter, yikes, good for you for pulling through on that. I can never make seamed garter look right.

Hi Jan! That looks wonderful! I couldn't have done a better job with sewing. That's my least fav part of knitting. Ack! I'm off to Oakland w/my BF to the Knit & Crochet Show! I'll be sure to take some pictures! Woo hoo! :D

Really it doesn't look good. It was so easy, but I don't know if I'd do it again because of the garter seaming. Ugh! Thanks for your kudos though! The only thing I did different on this one was a different yarn, narrower pattern sections and I added a single crochet border.

Thanks everyone!

I just was re-looking at an article on seaming in a 2002 Interweave Knits. It says for mattress stitch on garter to pick up the lower purl loop on one side and the upper purl loop on the other side to seam, for future reference.

Thanks Ingrid. I saved that info to my folder on my computer. ;)

What a pretty sweater. I know what you mean about the seaming. It is a bitch! I just did my first baby cardigan and I finally got the hang of it at the side seam so my sleeves look terrible. I think the knitter is more critical than the receiver so they won't even notice. (I hope)
