Ok, I'm working on a sweater and I'm about to start shaping the arm holes on the back. The instructions say "Dec 1 st each side every other row 4 times, every 4th row 4 times." I understand all the abbreviations, but does the instruction mean that every time I start a new row on each side I decrease or every other time I start a row on one side I decrease? I may not be explaining my question very well, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. Help?

This is how I think I read it... and let's say you have 116 rows...
You decrease at each side on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th rows, and on the 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th.
My guess would be then, why don't patterns just SAY exactly what rows to increase/decreason on?

Does this seem to match what you're asking?

I don't know why they don't just say it. This thing goes completely by measurements. I think I understand what you're saying, though. Thanks.

Nice pic, BTW!
