When I get to row 8 I am 3 sts. short. I think the way I have calculated it I should have 37 sts. on the needles and when I count how many I should have for row 8 it should be 41 so row 7 should add sts. and I don't see how that happens.

Cast on 37sts.
Knit 4 rows of garter st

The P1B could be the increase.

It may mean p1 below, in which you purl into the stitch that's below the next one on the left needle and then purl into the stitch itself.

Does the pattern offer a better description of a P1B?
