If any of you know of a good inexpensive wool yarn, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I need to knit 5 afghans for Christmas. I got some from Elann, but there's not much on a skein..

Any help would be appreciated..

Have you thought about using a washable blend like Plymouth Encore? I've never used it myself but it seems like lots of knitters like it.

I like Cascade Superwash. It is one of the less expensive Superwash wools.

You're going to knit 5 afghans before Christmas! That's some super fast knitting. Considering afghans usually take at least 1000 grams of worsted, it's hard to think of how to do 5 of them inexpensively. Um, KnitPicks has some 100 gram wool/modal blends (hand wash) for $2.99 in limited colors. The cheapest superwash 100% wool I can think of right now is the Knitaly that's on sale at Webs (also limited colors) for $4 and change per 100 grams. Plymough (I think) makes 100% wool 100 gram balls called Galway usually in the low $5 range. Hmm. There's somewhere on the web having a sale on Encore (75% acrylic 25% superwash wool), also a Plymouth product for $3 and change for 100 grams, but I can't remember where at the moment. If you can stand 100% acrylic, Caron Simply Soft is less than $3 for 6oz.
