View Full Version : Yet Another Fetching Question

Hi all,

I was in my LYS yesterday and decided to take the plunge and so I bought some Cashmerino Aran in a lovely teal color and I am preparing to make my first pair of Fetchings. There was a sample of them in cashmere and I remember when the lady who owned the store was knitting them up, I happened to be in the store and she said that she had frogged her first attempt because she didn't like how loose they were coming out and so the ones she made were had 2 less cable patterns than what knitty calls for in the online pattern.

So, I was wondering if any of you Fetching Experts have made modifications to the pattern and if you could share them with us Fetching "newbies." WIll I be able to make a pair out of only one skein? Or will I have to run back to the store before they run out of my dye lot for another?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom :notworthy:

OTN -- a pair of simple toe up socks for my son
a tie for DH (do I really think I can finish it for Christmas???)
a skirt for DD ( I haven't touched it for so long cause I found another pattern I like better)

Hi...I just finished Fetching, but not with the Debbie Bliss. I used Lamb's Pride Superwash Worsted. I was working off of a 200-yard skein of yarn, so I of course had enough. Reading the pattern, it says that some knitters can do it with 1 skein of DB, and some need a few more yards. If you are going to follow the pattern exactly, than I would get another skein just in case. If you make it smaller by taking out a cable, then 1 skein would probably be enough. I followed the pattern exactly and don't find the finished product too loose, and I have fairly small hands and average sized wrists. I don't think the pattern is meant to be tight fitting. If you have thin hands and wrists, then you could modify it. I don't know if this helps at all, but I wanted you to have a response to your questions.

Thanks for the reply.

I was starting to wonder if I had cooties or something :pout: Then I figured everyone was just plumb tired of Fetching questions! :sleepy:

I think I am going to frog what I started and take out a cable and try again. I like my mitts to be a little snug.

Well, you'll definitely have enough to finish with one skein if you take out one cable. I'm wearing mine right now...nice and cozy. I hope you enjoy yours! I'm thinking of making another pair in Debbie Bliss for a gift, but making them longer...two more cable repeats on the bottom.

I finished and am starting on the second -- I really like the way it came out - I did leave out 2 cables and they fit just the way I like them too. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the picot bind off. I'm not sure if I did it right so I think I'm going to look at knitty and see if I can tell if mine looks like theirs.

They work up fast but I have so much going on at the same time that I'm juggling projects.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just checked and mine look pretty much like the ones on knitty.com. I guess I just don't like the loose bind off.

Oh well

I just did a regular bind off (in pattern) on mine....they look just as good.
