View Full Version : Lonnie's Sport Socks

Hey Ya'll :waving:

Okay, the jest of it...I designed a pair of socks for Lonnie...I had to post them on here even if I am on bedrest!
As some of you know, I recently knit a pair of socks for Lonnie and he loves them! I've seen him washing and wearing them 3 times a week! Yes, I'm hanging my head  these were the only socks I'd ever knit for him!
That said I had to not only knit another pair for him, but design a pair!http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/2006%20a%20new%20year%20in%20KNITTING/th_lonniesportsox14.jpg (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/2006%20a%20new%20year%20in%20KNITTING/lonniesportsox14.jpg) Lonnie enjoys short socks, they can easily be lengthened in the leg, I would suggest another ball of yarn should you choose to lengthen.http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/2006%20a%20new%20year%20in%20KNITTING/th_lonniesportsox6.jpg (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/2006%20a%20new%20year%20in%20KNITTING/lonniesportsox6.jpg) These are a simple 4 st/ 4 row slip st pattern, easily memorized. I think that this pattern would look nice with solid or variegated yarn. I have several discontinued colorways of KnitPicks hand painted merino sock yarn in my sock yarn stash and he picked one of these (yes, hand wash socks, but that's okay, my Baby is worth it!).
Oh, almost forgot, I wrote the pattern for 5 size 1 dpns, but it can easily be adapted to your favorite form of socknitting (I actually knit mine with 2 circs ) http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/2006%20a%20new%20year%20in%20KNITTING/th_girllookingdisplay.jpg (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/2006%20a%20new%20year%20in%20KNITTING/girllookingdisplay.jpg) Don't ya love this girly picture...I didn't put it in with the pattern, though! The pattern can be found on my design blog (http://whimsicalknittingdesigns.blogspot.com/2006/11/lonnies-sport-socks.html).

I'm headed to the doc again tomorrow, hopefully he will allow me up more, if so you will be seeing more of me around here! Goodness, bedrest stinks, it doesn't sound like it..but it sure does make you tired!

:muah: :muah: I miss ya'll so much :muah: :muah: You are the BEST :muah: :muah:

That is so cute that Lonnie wore the first pair of socks you made for him so often. I'm sure he'll be glad to have another set in rotation. Thanks for sharing the pattern with us -- it's so refreshing to see some man socks that aren't too boring (like plain stockinette and ribbing). :cheering:

Hope your appt goes well tomorrow, Rebecca, so that your doc let's you be up more. We miss you!

That's so cool that he loves your socks. I'm sure he'll love these, too. They look great.

So sick, eh? I had been wondering about your lack of posts recently.

Oooo! They look GREAT! :cheering: :cheering: Soon you'll have to knit him more - one for each day of the week! Somehow I don't think you'd mind tho! :teehee:

Rebecca, I had knit my first dozen pairs of socks and not one for my hubby  (didn't think he'd like them). Then one day he said in a little voice, "You know, I'd like to have a pair of socks that you made. I'd really enjoy wearing them." :pout: How can I be so dense sometimes?

Thank you for sharing your socks for Lonnie! I can't wait to make them for Phil!

I didn't make socks for DH until I had enough "practice" under my belt. I think it took about 4 pairs for me before I dared start a pair for him. :teehee: If he didn't have such big feet I would've done it sooner, but it takes so much longer to do his, especially since he likes a really tall cuff.

The socks look great! I really must learn to do knit socks...well after I finish the sweater I started...the blanket...my scarf.... :teehee:

Take care of yourself! :muah:

Thanks, everyone! Ya'll are so sweet and kind, as usual :muah:
There is an update about today's appt. on my blog (http://whimsicalknitting.blogspot.com/2006/11/wanna-know-what-im-doing-in-bed-hmmmmm.html), again, thanks so much for all of your kind thoughts and prayers...notes, phone calls, emails, gifts, most especially...for your love :muah:

Thanks for the sock pattern. I started a pair of socks a year ago for my Man and they are the only thing I never finished. He finally asked about them, and I am now completing the second of the pair. I hope they match up okay. The first one looks like it may be slightly bigger. Must be knitting tighter now. Becca, May I be so bold as to ask if you have RA? My DH does and the little that I have read always makes me thing of him. Regardless, I hope that you feel better soon. Thanks again for the sock pattern. Think I will try it next and not put it off for a year lol

Thank you, and of course you may ask...no, I don't, but I have a very young niece who does and it's quite traumatic.
Very long story, short: lol, as a matter of fact, these are just some of the highlights  - I've had several hip replacements;other hip/leg surgeries;ongoing hip dislocations, etc, all which have left lots of damage and left me in constant, often severe pain...but, hey....that's okay, I'm not dying and going thru part of this in the beginning (began with a wreck in 1981 when I was 22) were what I like to call some of the "Stepping stones to my salvation." Had this (and many other things that caused me to hit rock bottom) never happened, I never would have looked up and given my life to Christ :cheering: :cheering:
Now....since I was up to take meds and had to check in...I'm headed back to bed :muah:
