Here is a cabled bag pattern, but I don't think they are exactly the same cables as in your picture. Pretty close though.

I only know how to do the braid:

Over 10 sts 4 row repeat

Rows 1 & 3 (WS) k2 p6 k2

Row 2 (RS) p2 slip next 2 sts to cn, hold in front, k2, k2 from cn, k2, p2

Row 4 (RS) p2, k2, slip next 2 sts to cn, hold in back, k2, k2 from cn, p2

Repeat rows 1 - 4

The large cable down the middle is called an Ensign's Braid. I have it in my Knitter's Bible by Claire Crompton, and I think it is in one of the Barbara Walker books too.

The pattern for something like that is not simple. Most of the patterns come with a chart, photo and instructions. For something this detailed I suggest going to the bookstore (and/or library) and looking at stitch pattern books. This won't be the last time you'll need to look up a stitch. It's kind of fun to look at them, too. :teehee:
