This is from the holiday issue of Vogue Knitting. I'm using Zephyr DK, a 50% wool 50% silk blend that I got from the wonderful Sarah's Yarns. This sleeve is kicking my butt, though. Worked flat instead of in the round as per instructions (I know, I should have done it on dpns - not magic loop, me and magic loop fair isle did not make friends; we made ladders instead). And the gray curly cues are hard, cuz they aren't an easy to memorize pattern so I have to keep checking the chart. And all the ends to weave in! I've already woven in like 15, but there will be like 60 in total for this sleeve, I bet. I breezed through the back in solid color, but this sleeve.

Plus, I think the sleeve is gonna be a bit too big. It measures up to the smallest size for the pattern, but I want it smaller. I did knock off 6 stitches from the sides to accommodate for my gauge. But I adjusted the rest of the sweater for gauge AND for a tighter fit. I just hope it doesn't look too weird, cuz no way am I frogging all that work.

If I can do it, you can do it. You've been knitting longer than me. Just give it a try!

Thanks, everybody. I'll work on this tonight again, I guess, after I've done a little more work on my paper. i hate this paper.

Well, I finally finished this sleeve. Holy %$#!@&!, that was a lot of work. No avoiding the cutting now, as it's too big and there's no way I'm redoing it and also no way I'm letting all that work go to waste. The back was done before the sleeve, am a couple inches into the front, and still have the little fair isle piece that gets sewn into the front plus the other sleeve, which is solid color

Oh, this is sorta what it's supposed to look like when it's done:

WOW! Just plain Wow!! I wouldn't frog that either if I were you. It's beautiful.

I feel your pain in how long it takes to do a sleeve. They seem to look so small. But for some reason, I don't know why, it always seems like sleeves go on FOREVER - don't they? :teehee:

Well, I finished. I may redo the neck edging to make it tighter as it's a bit loose now, but not today. I'm pooped, and I haven't studied for nearly 2 whole days obsessing with this thing. It may not stand up to close inspection, but at least it photographs well. I wrote a little on the blog about it, too.

Thank you, everyone, for your help.

Aw, you guys are so sweet. Thank you! :muah: Now that it's the next day, I have decided that I will rip back the neck and redo. It's not that difficult of a thing to fix and I think it will make a big difference. I had done different edging, actually, when I was working on it but didn't have the mag with me. I think I like my edging better than the one in the pattern.

You guys always make me like my sweater more. :) I still need improvement in my steeking methods, though.

Thanks soooo much for posting pics in your beautiful sweater!

I remember looking at it in vogue and thinking there was nooo way I could ever do that. Seeing your pics in progress and then the finished sweater on you kind of makes it more real, ya know? Like, someone I almost know knitted that, so it is possible!

I will bookmark this thread to come back to if I whip up the courage and motivation to dive into this in the fall.
