I would like to commit to the next go-round too.
I like the blog too. Very nicely done.
Shandeh - I was thinking, maybe you could connect the blog to the KH blogring? Don't know if you want to, but just a thought.
Thanks, my friend! :muah: I don't know how to connect the blog, but I'll see if Jan thinks we should do it. (She's our KH mod for this knit-along.)

It's so funny! I was reminded of when I was in 3rd grade, and there was this girl in class that EVERYBODY liked. We kept a list of names, designating who would get to sit beside her for lunch each day. :teehee: I NEVER thought I would ever be as popular as her!

:waah: i was just kidding too. don't cry cause it makes me cry. it is okay really, i told you to go ahead, and i meant it. :verysad:

Stop crying cause now y'all are making me cry :waah:
Wait - What is is we're crying about? :??

I got it in the mail today, it is sooo pretty and soft. I hope to go tonight to get some yarn to do my part with, and I'll post pictures when I finish.

I also got some wonderful goodies from Lestrella (picture below)!!

Ok, I have to say this is so cool! I love seeing 1) What people are getting, and 2) that people are sending little presents!

I think it is so indicative of this forum that people are not only knitting for charity, but giving to those who are giving of their time.

What a group of people. I just love that there is so much help, fun, and caring on this forum. I don't see a lot of that on a daily basis, and I have to admit, this forum is one of my forms of escape from the "real" world.

Although admittedly I don't really live in the "real" world, 40 hours a week. My stress level has gone down considerably since I started knitting, AND since I found KH!

GennyLynn, did you like the mini Oddball blanket card? I was trying to be as creative as possible since I didn't have yummy yarn to share.

Have fun knitting!!!

03-15-2007, 10:22 PM
lestrella- I did get it! That is so cool, I wish I could think of things like that. Now I have a keepsake to remember the blanket by.

I think I will put a lifeline in the blanket before I start on it. Would you all rather me put it back in on my last row or take it out?

letah- I feel the same way!

Shandeh
03-15-2007, 11:15 PM
GennyLynn, I got your voice message on my phone earlier! It was so nice to hear your voice!!! Sorry I didn't answer the phone, but I was in the middle of choir rehearsal at church. :teehee:

Do you have a photo of the little card? I saw it when Lestrella came to visit me this week, and it is so PRECIOUS!!!!

And I think a lifeline is a GREAT idea. When you finish your rows, we'll check with the next person to see if they want the lifeline put in the last row.

And letah, I just LOVE your sentiments about KH and the incredible way it has impacted our lives.

03-16-2007, 12:35 AM
 Ok, I saw it.....but, uh, I've never done a lifeline. I get the concept, but is that just so if the next person needs to frog, they will not accidentally frog your portion?

jeanius80
03-16-2007, 01:12 AM
yeppers.. A lifeline is just exactly for that! i think its a wonderful idea.. i would hate to accidently ruin someones hard work b/c i goofed on my portion.... :pout: go genny for being thoughtful!

GennyLynn1962
03-16-2007, 07:54 AM
I got started on the blanket last night, I knit about 2 rows. :teehee:

The lifeline is in it, if any of you have read about my knitting you know I have a frog addiction, I feel better with it in there. I'm glad you all thought it was a good idea. When I'm ready to pass the blanket to the next person I'll ask her if she wants it to stay in.

Sandy - it was good to hear your voice too, even if it was on the answering machine. I'll give you a call again sometime and this time I'll try to remember to give you my number. :teehee:

Here is a picture of the card, it's a wonderful keepsake, thanks again Lestrella.

Your wish is my command!

Here's another one;
Using a lifeline (http://www.heartstringsfiberarts.com/lifeline.shtm)

GennyLynn1962
03-17-2007, 08:55 AM
Using a lifeline is easier than having to frog a whole piece of work and starting over. With a lifeline, if you have to frog it will stop where the lifeline is and you can insert your needles there and go on from that point.

The first row with a lifeline can be a bit tight to knit, but really it is not bad at all.

I have to say that a lifeline is a genius idea Genny!

The mini blanket card is too cute! What a great keep sake.

Everyone is getting their rows done so quickly, I can't believe it is on the 4th knitter already. My turn wil be coming sooner than I thought :happydance: You all are the best :muah:

GennyLynn1962
03-19-2007, 08:10 AM
Thanks Holly

I have such a habit of frogging that now I use lifelines in everything I knit, even squares. :teehee:

I love the mini card too, I'm such a sap for keepsakes, for some reason they are important to me. I think I get that from my mom.

We were really busy this weekend which meant no knitting time for me, but I do have about 1 1/2 inches on the blanket done.

I have finished my part of Blanket #1. It may take me a couple of days to get it packed and taken to the post office, but the knitting is done.

Here are some pictures, I used Red Heart Windsor Blue yarn.

ETA..The white that is showing close to the needles is the lifeline, not some strange stitches I added. :teehee: Also, the blue is a bit darker in the pictures than it actually is.

And there were so many pretty presents in there from GennyLynn! :inlove:

I got two little candles and a gorgeous votive holder, a little journal, some very soft yarn (in one of my favorite colors!), some thread clippers, and two yarn needles! GennyLynn, thank you so so so much for such wonderful goodies!

I've already started on the blanket...I wasn't sure how to add in a new color, so I just joined it with Genny's thread tail for three stitches, and then dropped her tail. The color is a surprise for now, but let's just say it's definitely a Florida yarn! :teehee:

I'm SO glad our mail person did their job well. :)
Maybe we should say a big THANK YOU to the US Postal Service for helping to get our blanket all over the place for us! :teehee:

The blanket is starting to look like....well.....a BLANKET!
It definitely has a back and front side now, since we have cables and changing colors.

SO, I guess we'd better be careful now to make sure that each knitter ends on a wrong side row, so the next knitter will be able to add their color and start knitting on a right side row, and it will look PERFECT! :)

You are all doing such a WONDERFUL JOB with your knitting!

Ok, well technically I have until this Thursday to mail the blanket, but I will be mailing it out on Wednesday, whether I'm completely done or not. I am almost done, got about one more inch to knit, but goodness, three inches on a 300-stitch-wide blanket is taking me absolutely forever to knit. I guess I'm just a slow knitter.

No! No pictures yet! I am a bad updater. :pout:

I also kept it another day! And as much as I loved knitting the blanket, I didn't keep it just to spend some extra time with it. No, I kept it because I don't know how to end on the correct row so that the next knitter's work won't show through to the right side.

So the blanket is pretty much done and ready to go, the box is addressed to LucyFan and packed with goodies, and I can't seal it up yet because I'm not sure if the blanket is properly finished.

So...help? I just finished knitting the wrong side (the wrong side was facing me). Do I need to knit one more row? :??

I apologize...I'm really quite embarassed about this. But I've never done the whole changing colors thing while working flat (done it on circs, but I think that's different), and I just can't get my brain wrapped around the concept of "end on a wrong side row"...my brain keeps saying, "But does that mean finish knitting a wrong side row, or finish the right side to be ready for the wrong side?" :help:

The blanket will go out this afternoon when I get home from work, and I promise I will post pictures this time. Thanks for everyone's help (and patience, too!)!

Ummm, did I end on the wrong side, err right side? I tried to go by what the others had done, but I'm not sure how I ended it.

I put the lifeline in and knitted a couple of extra rows, so I guess it could have been frogged back if it was not ended right. :?? I do remember thinking how pretty it was, and that anyone would be proud to get it.

Now I'm confused. :wall:

HollyP
04-12-2007, 10:35 AM
My understanding of end on a wrong side row is knit the wrong side so the blanket will be ready for the next person to knit the right side. Does that make sense? Also if I am wrong someone please correct me!

HollyP, if that's correct, then the blanket should be ready to go! I knitted the wrong side last night, so I guess now all I have to do is cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and send it off to the next knitter!

Anyone else? All I need is one more confirmation that what I did was correct, and then I can mail the blanket! :happydance:

Ending on a wrong side row would mean finish the wrong side row so the new knitter starts on a right side.

Frankly though I don't think it's a huge thing. It would just mean there is a little blip of color change in the stitches, but it might not show that much with the patterns. Sandy?

Hi Hi Hi!! It is done! Mailed! Away to LucyFan!! :cheering:

I measured my portion, and it is actually pretty darn close to three inches anyway, so I am quite pleased with myself! :teehee:

Here is my finished section! I chose a bright sunshine colored yellow to represent the insanely hot sunshine we're getting here in Central Florida. I hope you all like it!

I used Red Heart for my part, I wanted to use something softer but there were no colors I liked. I think any yarn would be good, different yarns add to the texture of the blanket.

So after DH got home we decided on a color...well actually I had one in my head. And when he got home I asked him what color he thought should go next and he said the exact color I was thinking of too. So I went to Hobby Lobby and picked out some yarn and brought it home. I also got some goodies for the next person in line. Now I just need to decide on what kind of stitch I'm going to do.

Sandy--I did get lot's of goodies. Feminine Earth was very generous.

Hi all,

Kinda different subject but I thought I'd post this (on all three blankets):

I just wanted to let you know that my ISE4 secret knitter who is from Australia saw the charity blogs, and is planning on starting her own blanket in her country. She is planning on doing one for children, so it'll be a little smaller. They might send a children's book around with the blanket so that everyone can sign the book to go along with the blanket.

It's in the very early planning stages, but she said as soon as I find out who she is, she'll give me the blog address.

How cool. The love is spreading 'round the world from the North American continent! I think it's cool!!!

That's really cool. (8 year old neice) really liked it. A couple of weeks ago we were cleaning out the basement & came across the baby blanket that I crocheted for her when I was pregnant. That's so cute how your neice wants to see unfinished objects!

I worked quite a bit on the blanket tonight! I did four rows, which was a huge feat. And it was quite needed because I hadn't worked on it at all over the weekend because we went out of town. I'm about half way finished with my part. If I do say so myself it's coming along quite nicely. And I had a slight emergency tonight when trying to push the stitches up off the needle and I wound up pulling them off the needle and dropped stiches! I wound up dropping stitches about 4 rows down. Now, I'm not the best knitter and fixing mistakes isn't my strong point. I had to breathe deeply because normally in this type of situation I would just frog. But I reeeeely didn't want to do that seeing as so much work went into the previous rows and I only have another week. So I tryed to breathe deeply and attempt to fix the stitches. I managed to get them back up on the needle and you can hardly tell! I mean, I can tell, but I doubt anyone else would be able to. :happydance:

I chose to do this stitch http://cache.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&faqKey=291 because it looked like a very simple pattern repeat. It was a really easy stitch to do. I liked knitting it. I'm not thrilled with the way that it turned out though because it kind of made my stitches look uneven and crappy. Oh well..as long as noone looks too closely. :teehee:

Just wanted to come on to say that Oddball Blanket #1 is officially on it's way to Washington state. I just got back from dropping it off at the post office. Now I should have gone with 2-3 days because it was only like $2 more. But my naturally frugal instinctive mind spit out the cheaper price before I knew what it was doing. So I'm truly sorry that you all have to wait that much longer to find out if the post office did it's job correctly and got the blanket where it needs to go. I did splurge and get the delivery confirmation for like an extra $0.50. I'm weird. Sorry guys.

The blanket is beautiful!

I'm so impressed with how many knitters we have working on the blankets and the shawls, such a wonderful group of people!

I'm so happy to be a part of this.

I'm so glad that the blanket made it safely! It's kind of strange and fun to see what sat in my living room for two weeks now in somebody elses house...and someone I've never met at that. :teehee: I can't wait to see what happens to the blanket next!

Lestrella--thank you...you made me blush

jeanius--I liked that ss too. I've never worked with ss before, but I picked up some extra for me too that I think will turn into a scarf.

Caron Simply Soft is a GOOD yarn. Not expensive, soft, and easy to knit with.

Yes, jeanius now has the blanket! We met this afternoon at a Starbucks about halfway in between out houses and sat and chatted for over two hours. No knitting was accomplished (due in part to the antics of her adorable DD), but I did give her a mini getting-started-with-a-drop-spindle lesson. I have photos of the blanket, but haven't had time to transfer them to my computer and post them yet. Tomorrow - I promise.

i do have the blanket! jhelanee did a great job! we had a nice time at starbucks, but no kip'ing... my dd was a handful the whole time! it was great to see spinning in person and ask her questions (THANKS A BUNCH J )... well of to wrangle my dd!

It was wonderful to meet you yesterday, jeanius, and you are quite welcome for the spinning demonstration.

I had a little bit of a hard time deciding what color to use for my portion of the blanket, but eventually settled on my original idea of a nice dark green (for the evergreen state ;) ) Once I was done I moved the lifeline from its earlier position to the end of the finished work (its the white by the needle) While taking photos of my finished section, I decided that it was hard to get a good idea of the size of the blanket all bunched up on the needle. So I transferred half the stitches to a second needle and spread it out on the end of my queen sized bed. That definitely gave a better idea of the size...

When jeanius and I met, there was also another meeting: Oddball Blanket #1 meet Oddball Shawl! Fun coincidence...

I got it on Saturday, started it on Monday and finished it yesterday. I'm actually not QUITE ready to mail it just yet. I still need to knit one last row to put it BACK on the needles it came on. The first thing I did was move it over to my Options. I LOVE my Options. :D Probably by Monday I will be ready to send it off.
